Best Breast Pads

ORIGINAL POST

I am due to have my baby soon and have been stocking up on essentials. When it comes to breast pads, does anyone have any recommendations as to which are the best?

Grateful for any advice.

I liked the pigeon brand, they didn't "stand out" too much!

I use washable breast pads from MotherEase and another brand (forgot name) really like them.

I also have some disposables, but I really think the washable ones are more comfortable and stay in place very well.

Buy one box of disposables that has some different absorbancies and see what you like/need.

One comment - Don't buy too many in advance, many friends who are 'done' having babies have given me their 'leftover' unused breast pads, seems everyone buys too many!

I also recommend the Pigeon brand - you can get them at Bumps to Babes

loved pigeon - they weren't to obvious, nice bit of adhesive, held a bunch if your breast was acting particularly "leaky." But in the first couple of weeks, the washable ones are more comfortable, breathe more easily and are easier on your tender breasts.

Thanks for the advice. Do Pigeon do washable and disposable?

I tried several washable ones (responsible environmentalist that I am) but felt I always smelled like sour milk, yuck. The Pigeon disposable ones are great, the best I think.

The Pigeon ones hold a lot of milk if you are especially leaky but the Gerber ones are much less visible/lumpy - i have only found Gerber at IFC Mannings.

Disposable -forget it. They leak every time with me.

To more experienced Mums - so are we beholden to bloody boob pads until we stop BF? I've gotten through stacks already!!

hmmm, maybe I just don't leak much, but so far the washables are very comfy and don't smell...

Do you leak more later? Our baby is only 5 weeks old.

anyway, if they do start to not work for me I have a few boxes of disposables (1 I bought in advance and the others have been given to me).

Have seen Pigeon at Mannings and WingOn and other shops...

Sorry to sound stupid but how does one use washable breast pads? ie do you wash it after every wear or maybe longer and do you need more than say 3 or 4 pairs?

Many thanks

have been using Mothercare disposable ones for over 6 months... am quite satisfied with them... I think disposable might just be more hygenic..

I wash mine every day, when I wash my bra.

Baby is 4 months now, I still don't leak.

If I leaked, I would have to use a few pairs a day instead.

I think they are just as hygenic as wearing clothing that is washed daily :)

I found that I only leaked for the first 2 or 3 months. Not sure if this is the case for everybody but I'm sure it's normal for breasts to get less full the longer you breastfeed, although when your baby starts sleeping longer in the night you might wake up in a puddle!

I also like the cloth ones better and the more pairs the better so that it doesn't matter if you are too busy to keep on top of your washing ;-)

About the amount, I have about 10 pairs, but have never used all of them...
