Moving to Clear Water Bay

Hi there,

I've used Asiaexpat regularly for the 7 years i've lived in Hong Kong, but this is my first post.

I am planning to move from Mid Levels to Clear Water Bay for the main purpose of saving some money on rent....and also to have a change of scenery!

I've read most of the threads on similar topics on Asiaexpat which have been really helpful in making a decision about which area of Clear Water Bay to live and what obstacles may be encountered.

I've now found a Mid Floor 'apartment' in the village Yu Uk and planning to sign the lease this week.

I just want to ask if anyone else lives in or knows of this village and if they would recommend it. I have no car, so car park will not be a problem. Its just me and my dog, so schools etc not a problem. I've been to see the apartment on a sunday afternoon and all was quiet in the 'hood, and going back on a weekday to see how things look then before i sign.

Apart from general recommendations, i was also wondering what the internet speed is like in this area? I work from home most of the time and most of my work is done on computer, so i guess its a biggie for me.

I've also read about stray or village dogs roaming some villages, just wondering if Yu Uk has any of these i would need to look out for.

My other question is about burglaries, and home security. I don't have massives amounts of cash or valuables that would be worth breaking in for, but i'd prefer to err on the side of caution with this type of thing. Apart from generally keeping doors and windows locked etc are there any other precautions i should take?

Finally, any advise on public transport would also be welcome, although it seems straight forward. I would very rarely be travelling at rush hour so can avoid crowded minibuses.

Thanks so much :)

Internet speed in most of the villages in Sai Kung / CWB is 6 or 8 Mbps.

Having a dog and keeping doors and windows shut is a good way to keep the burglars out. Middle Floor is more secure than the G/F. Sliding patio doors are often the weak point - if the burglar can climb onto your balcony, he may be able to defeat the poor quality locks. Add a cut off piece of plastic conduit or a piece of wood to keep the doors closed.
