Can anyone tell me what it is like living in the new territories. We have previously lived in HK on the main island but will be arriving in the summer from Singapore with one son and 3 dogs so need lots of space.
How easy is it to get to HK island?
Is it cheaper living in NT?
I have read a few threads on this site that mention wild dogs - is this a problem?
Any info would be great.

The further north in the NTs, there are some wild dogs.
Easy enough from Shatin and places along the KCRC line. Where exactly were you thinking of living?

Some people seem to think we all run around in grass skirts in the NT and are over-run with wild creatures. Nothing could be further from the truth. We have many classy estates with large flats with gardens. We have very civilised towns no more at threat from wild dogs than most of the island. We have villages with dogs, sure, but doesn't every village in HK?
Prices are definitely cheaper in most parts of the NT. Check out main centres like Shatin and Taipo which have regular buses to the island and efficient rail links. It is quicker to get to the island from here than from Disco Bay or many other 'select' location

I've lived in Ma On Shan since August and enjoy the openess and cleaner air. I easily get to the island whenever I want. We are moving to Sai Kung soon and really like that area too. You can get way more for your money in NT than on the island.

Live near Gold Coast in a gorgeous 2600sq ft apartment and pay pittance for it. it's in fantastic condition and is well maintained with good management. There are no stray dogs, in fact no stray anything.
At Gold Coast we have a Wellcome, Watsons, Pacific Coffee and lots of restaurants and surprise, surprise it is very civilised.

All information is great thanks.
Regarding where in new territories we have no idea. Husband will be working near ferry terminal on HK island, son will go to school wherever. Needs to be good commute. Looking at all of HK were initially v interested in discovery bay but you don't get much for your money.
Having lived in HK before but only briefly never found stray / wild dogs a problems so was just concerned that with 3 of my own they might hassel us when out walking this was after reading postings on this site about stray dogs.
Like the sound of gold coast - husband went there 2 years ago but was not much there then. I take it there is a bus to the main island. What about schools in the area.
Most important for us is to have enough outdoor space for the dogs.

There;s a regular Cityline bus service that runs into Central taking about 35-40 mins, also there are numerous areas to walk dogs and it is just so accessible and great for kids.
Lots of schools have bus services from GC as GC does not have schools in the area but can easily get to Kowloon Tong, Sha Tin, etc....
