Hi, I am having conflicting opinions about which rice is good for 6 months old. Some the elders say that basmati rice is good cause we always gave that to our kids whereas others say that par boiled rice is good since it can be eaten as staple food. Basmati rice in itself is not filling and leads to stomachache in infants. Is that true. Where can I find the right approach?

I've heard that brown unpolished rice is the best as they still contain a lot of fibrious nutrients which are great for kids. I would reccomend that you boil it as congee for your baby and add a little veg and stock which would give your bub an all round nutricious meal!

Basmati rice is great. But why not get them used to the best of all: brown rice. Full of fiber and nutrition. As an adult, I love the taste of white rice (Basmati actually), but let the kids eat brown rice. Once you get them used to it...they would never know the differnce. My kids are older know, so I alternate b/w white and brown rice. But when they are babies, brown rice is best! I would try any organic brown rice in City Super, Great or Olivers...Welcome carries some local or thai brand names (also ok, but not the best of course). Enjoy!

Generally there isn't much difference among rices for baby as they are prepared with lots of water to make a rice congee or porridge and the texture is soft already. We don't serve the rice to baby with the same texture as for the adult.
Parboiled rice is the same theory that it's cooked once to make it soft, but it can still be hard if water added is inadequate.
Hope you find the information useful

help!
we are starting solids (bub is 5 months) and i originally wanted to start him on organic brown rice. but when i called the clinic, the nurse gave a big NO to organic brown rice cereal. the clinic seems to think baby white rice cereal is better than brown rice at the start - was told not to introduce brown rice until 8-9 months.
i am confused as everyone here is talking about how brown rice is better! any advice will be appreciated.

start with white rice - the simplest starch is easier on the baby's digestive tract. After the baby has started on a couple of different foods, you can introduce the brown rice. With my eldest daughter, I just finished a box of organic white rice along with other foods and then I began the other whole grains.
