Want to have a bed made for my 3 year old that will have a wardrobe underneath and drawers to save on space in his room. Couldn't find want I wanted in Ikea but someone mentioned in passing that 'Jade Rattan' make bedroom furniture for kids. Can anyone tell me where it is and if its any good? Any other recommendations welcome, thanks!

never had kids furniture made there - but I did see some pieces. They'll show you a catalog and ask you what you like, or you can even design something and they can help you make it.

Another one a lot of people use us Art Deco, also Queen's Road East (just beyond Hopewell Center, but across the street)--they'll make virtually anything from a picture or a drawing and their real claim to fame is personalizing it with your child's name of favorite characters or whatever.
We had them adapt some storage shelves from a Pottery Barn design, just stain and no fancy painting, they're exactly what we wanted.

I had my daughter's bed made there. Very happy with the results. Very solid. We discussed the designs and measurements with them. They delivered and set up the whole thing.
Knowing Cantonese would help.

We've had furniture made at Jade Rattan and we're really pleased with it. I don't speak Cantonese at all but I was still able to communicate. However, the thing I wanted was very uncomplicated, so I guess it depends. For a wardrobe such as you've described, it is standard to draw a diagram / picture with measurements etc on it, so that would help. Jade Rattan is definitely on Queen's Road East. About 2 min down the street from the Hopewell Centre.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the info. Went to Jade Rattan on Wan Chai Rd, they were great. No problems getting what we wanted at a price less than just a bed in Ikea! Had a high bed built with a great ladder incorporated with each step being a drawer, a big wardrobe and the rest of the underneath is a play den. Its being delivered in a week or so, can't wait to see how it looks!
