Hi my 7 year old daughter goes there and did the assessment last year. She had to do lots of maths problems and then she was read a passage and then had to answer questions on it. She passed but they did not hesitate to tell me that the other children were much better and quicker then she was but most of those children were locals and I think they had been primed for this school from birth!!!! If I can help in any other way let me know!!

Naive question but is it possible to actually fail the assessment?

I do know of kids that have and they actually wanted to put my daughter in the year below so they could maintain their ratings!!! Think performance means alot there, and I help in her class and there are some very clever children! Spose it depends on how much money you may have and social status too.

Thanks a lot Suze. While my daughter knows her math and reading, there is not much more I can do in 10-15 days. But we will try our luck.

What do you mean by ..depends on how much money/social status?

Agree with Suze to a degree. I had 2 children at GSIS for 2 years. We swapped them to ESF for several reasons, they totally knocked my daughters confidence in F1 and 2, her grades were slipping, down to E's in German and despite asking for help from several teachers none was forthcoming. Within weeks of being at ESF her grades and confidence were back on track, and got fantastic results in her GCSE's, including an A in German. But even socially it was different, there is definately a big divide between HK islanders and Kowloon people (as we are), none of my kids friends would ever come Kowloon side for the cinema or playdates etc, they all said it was too far away, I was always expected to go there.

And yes it is possible to fail the assessment, many kids do.

My daughter had 30 mins notice of her interview so we could not prepare at all and had no clue as to what it may involve. Think I preferred it that way!!

There are a few kids in my daughters class whose parents are either extremely rich or a well known member of the community, not sure whether they have to take the same test!!

The other schools I am considering are HKIS and ESF. However, since I don;t know where I will be staying in HK, I am unable to apply to ESF. Any views on ESF Peak, Kennedy??

Why not take a look at the schools web sites. You can often get a of a feel for a school just by looking at the website prior to a visit. Have heard very good reports about all of the above.

I have just heard that my daughter will be assessed by GSIS on June 26th for entry into P3 in Sept 06. Can anyone please tell me what the kids are taught in P2 ie the level of English reading, math (tables etc).
