Lychees and Breastfeeding

This seems like a strange question...

I know that there are certain foods that are considered 'hot' and 'cold' and that some foods are not meant to be eaten while breastfeeding.

The last 2 weeks, my milk supply has dropped. I have done all the usual things - drink more water, spend more time skin to skin with baby, pump after feeds, etc...

The only two chages are:

1. I am a bit stressed/tired, but not extremely

2. I have been eating a lot of lychees

Does anyone know if lychees are bad for milk supply?

Of course, I am going to stop eating them and see what happens - but am quite curious to see if anyone knows if there is a connection?

(really hoping it is the lychees and not something more serious!)

Thanks Ellie!

Thanks Ruth!

I cut out lychees last night and I have to say, I pumped more today than I have in two weeks! (I always pump after the morning feed)

Maybe it is a coincidence, or maybe all the other things I have been doing (drinking more water, eating more, etc...) have all finally helped.

I have had to switch boobs during the feeds because he comes off crying and when I squeeze I can see the boob is empty. He then takes the other one and has more. Prior to this he was a one boob per feed baby.

Going to make myself a big bowl of oatmeal, yummy, great idea! :)

Lychees are supposed to be VERY bad for one's body. I know they are yummy, but unless your body is able to take the effects of Lychees, you should stay away from them, especially you gave birth recently. ( I don't know, this is the point of view of chinese medicine doctors)

One lychee- 3 torches of fire. It's very HOT for your body. ( too hot). And terrible for skin problem people.

Kate - thanks!

I knew they were 'hot' and that at some times should not be eaten - but wasn't sure if breast feeding was one of them.

That is exactly the info I was looking for.

Have you ever seen a list of 'hot' and 'cold' foods and details about them?

What is happening is that he feeds on one boob, and then about 10 minutes into the feed starts to cry and fuss and come off.

Then when I 'test' that boob, it is 'empty'.

If I put him back on, he cries and fusses.

But if I put him on the other boob, he sucks away for another 10 minutes or so.

I try to put him back on the first 'empty' boob, but he doesn't want it.

I know that if he would actually suck, he would get the good hind milk - but he just doesn't want to?

Fish Papaya Soup

Our helper made it for me the first few weeks, but I had lots of milk then so not sure it made a difference. My supply has just gone down the past couple of weeks, maybe I should try again.

I see the midwife tomorrow and will see what she says.

Thanks Ruth, I do that too...

The midwife said to also take my vitamins every day and eat and drink more, I probably have not been eating enough...
