This is a little off topic but... Do pediatric dentists generally charge more for "difficult" patients? My friend recently took her 3 year old son to a pediatric dentist to have a tooth extracted and was told since her son cried he was classified as a 'difficult' patient, and was charged 30% more for the procedure. Can anybody shed light on this?

Dr Jennie charges anything from HK$450 to HK$750 per consultation depending on what you want done. She's great with kids and very patient and has lots of gadgets to keep them occupied. The first time I took my son to her (he was about 3 1/2 then), she had 2 sets of real tools - one was for her to use and one was for the kid to play with before she started so the child would know what was going in his mouth.
Our visits in the beginning for a teeth clean took about an hour because my son was fussy etc etc and I wasn't charged anything more but as the years have past, my son has built up a relationship with her and we're now in and out in 20 minutes.
Pzam - I'm not sure whether it's standard for pediatric dentists to charge more for a "difficult" patient - Dr Jennie has never charged me more but I had to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed last year and I mentioned it to Dr Jennie and she advised me not to go to a dentist but to an oral surgeon. Oral surgeons may be more expensive but as they do this everyday, they're quicker and there's less pain.

Thanks for your replies. That's what I thought too. I mean, who expects a 3 year old to just open his mouth and get an injection and his tooth extracted without crying?

I can highly recommend Dr James Woo in Central. My family and I have been using him for 6 years. He extracted my wisdom teeth and my husband's and has provided dental care to my son, who is now nearly 3.
Dr Woo is a gentle, kindly man and when I asked him if he'd be OK with my then 19mth old son, he told me how he'd once done a filling on a 2-year-old with no problems!
He practices at: 908 Lane Crawford House. Tel: 2869 6986
