They eat Mozzies.... better harmless geckos than biting mozzies?

Sorry, I know that wasn't helpful, but that's how we look at it. We actually get excited when we see one and say 'look - it's ten pm, the gecko is going home now' as it runs from behind the AC to the window....

Yep, and they eat c*ckroaches. If Geckos can get in, other things can get in, too! If you kill them without getting rid of the bugs, you will see a lot more bugs, which I think are worse! Rather than poison them, try plugging the holes and getting rid of their food sources! Then you won't have to kill them (they eat the things outside too).

Oh I miss my Gecko's... my HK flat had so many of them and in GZ we have none - and yes, we have mozzies here instead... booooo!!

Sorry, not helpful at all. I do know that the urban council (think it's called something else now but check the HK Govt website - maybe FEHB) will send pest control officers round for rats, not sure if they do for other scampering animals though....

I have to agree with above, had geckos in our house in Australia and they were great and eating unwanted bugs that are a pain (mozzies etc). Bring em round to my place please!!!

i know they are great pest controls - but the thought of a cold blooded thing in my apt is another thing, not to mention their poo poo.

does anyone knw if i will ever step onto one on the floor or will one fall off from the ceiling and land on my head?? know i am being silly here, but i am terrified of those things.

Geckos are so lovely. We had one in our house and named him 'Gordon' .... but then the cat ate him :-( Honestly they are more scared of you then you are of them and they certainly wont be doing anything silly like falling on your head or getting under your feet. They are harmless and gentle creatures.

Winter honey

So glad to hear that I am not the only freak that HATES them. All of my friends have said the same thing as the above posts. They all mean well but they are just GROSS!!!! I found one in my appt, called Rentokill and the woman told me that they are good luck, so would not want to send people in to specifically kill them. She suggested blocking out all possible entrances, that meant keeping ALL windows closed, at ALL times. I saw another on the ceiling and was brave enough to get a broom with a long handle at it (yes I was tryingto kill the sucker), but it fell nto the floor. I freaked out and had to stand half naked on an ottoman in my living room until my helper came back home to look for it!!!! So yes, they can run along the floor. Also, my mother was in India and 2 of them fell on her head....probably not what you want to hear love, but just being honest. I HATE them to a point where I cant go on holiday if i think I will have a gecko in my hotel room!!!

On the positive, they are not that frequent. Once you get rid of the gecko, its unlikely to come back

Good Luck x

The pest control company I used in HK recommended that I buy a c*ckroach trap to get rid of geckos - the kind where the c*ckroach (or gecko) will get stuck if it crawls in. Didn't work for me but did for a friend of mine.

clueless - i am so glad to hear someone out there shared my feelings about those yucky geckos. we just moved into this apt 6 months ago, and i never ever thought i will encounter geckos here - i didn't even know they exist in hk. how wrong was i. my helper caught 3 - two big, and one baby. but yesterday, i found a big poo on my son's book. now i am getting very nervous - thinking that thing may be watching my every move, or even worse i may step on them!! i was told this apt was only empty for a month - but maybe the whole gecko family has been living here for ages. uuuughhhhh!

i don't see a lot - eg like a whole family running around, or a few of them on the ceiling. but i do see one occasionally. it is just the thought of them watching me in the dark turns me into a nervous wreck. sasha - like yourself, my helper thinks i am crazy or forever imagining that i saw one that zip by. my hubby calls me a gecko poop spotter! he said my scream is more scary than the gecko itself.

mamouna - i am very very willing to pay the experts to get rid of them - but i was told by Biocycle there isn't anything on the market which i can spray to keep them out. they suggested the sticky traps - which initially my helper caught 2, but now the traps are useless - i am convinced they have out smarted me - they are probably having a ball looking at me freaking out and putting all those traps around - which i think they are just taking a u-turn around them. dear me - i am freaking out again talking about them.

please if anyone know of any pest company that can do the job ps let me know.
