A fortnight ago my wife suggested that we purchase a LCD/Plasma when she returned from her business trip. I got a little excited and paid a visit to Fortress (we had previously purchased everything electical/electronic there) and ordered a television along the lines we had discussed. The television was delivered the following day. My wife returned from o/s and had a change of heart.
Fortress has signs posted all over the store stating that they have a 10 day money back guarantee. As it turns out, this is for defects only.
After pleading with Fortress (and stressing the TV wasn't out of the box...), they agreed to collect the television provided they receive a 30% fee. That's 30% of the purchase price.
Moral of story: never surprise your wife and CHOOSE WISELY when purchasing products from Fortress.

dear espy,
thanks for your post.
i would assume a 10 day money back policy meant what you thought. ie...you have 10 days to return the item without penalty as long as it is in new condition.
thanks for letting us know of your experience.

Personally I would read that 10 day money back policy as being on defected goods, not because you decided you didn't want it. If goods are fit for the job they are sold for then companies aren't required to give you a refund.

Just a thought but if you bought it using a credit card don't most card companies have some sort of 'escape' period where you can return goods?

The only shop I know in HK that does full refunds is good old Marks and Spencer! I always thought that HK was the only place in the world that doesn't give full refunds (or at least exchanges) for consumer goods. Certainly in the UK and North America you can return pretty much anything anywhere.
