Rent-a-mum has been mentioned on the forums a few times, but I've never actually seen any good/bad reviews with their services.
Can anyone kindly tell us your experiences with them?
I'm the "I don't trust anybody watching my baby but my family members" type of mom.
But since I have no family here, I'm either stuck at home ALL the time or I'll have to give in & find someone very reliable, experienced and honest.
Basically I just want to be able have a nice evening out with my husband once in while without being worried who's caring for my child.

Hi There!
Rent A Mum is a great nanny agency that has been running for many many years and so therefore has built up a great rapport with many of the expat families.
The girls who are on the books are western girls who have childcare certificates, first aid training and some are CRB checked.
The agency offers night nannying services, day nannying and maternity nursing.
Some of the girls on the book are espeically trained for caring with newborns and can give advice on sleep trianing and routines etc.
Contact Shirley on rentamum 25234868 and once hearing your needs she will find you a suitable candidate.

Hi there, bethhk very informative but do you have personal experience of them I would also like to hear of 'personal experience' of their services from other mums as it would seem 'undecided1' wants to. ANy mums out there without helpers who could let us know what they thought?

Well ladies, I guess no one at asiaxpat has actually used rent-a-mum. (?)
Perhaps they're only using their Amahs.
I don't have an Amah, but if I did, I would have to spend a very long time with my Amah getting to know her well enough to trust her with my baby.
I guess I've read one to many negative amah stories on here.

I have used rent-a-mum. First time when my daughter had colic as a little one and we had a someone in at night to help us for a week. Shirley at Rent-a-mum was really great and we had a wonderful girl who not only helped loads with our baby but was great with me as I was convinced at this point I was the worst mum in the world! Second time we had an overlap with our returning from hols and our helper from ours so I had someone again from R-A-M - didn't have the same relationship with her as the first but she was great with our child and that's what is important. I wouldn't have any hesitation in recommending Rent-A-Mum - my experiences have only been positive (as have others I know who have used them - there are many of us out there!)

Thks so much for the info Hetfield!
So R-A-M really is like a nanny (by the hour) service, more than a babysitting service?
Pls keep writing, if you more of you have experiences with rent-a-mum you'd like to share.
I wish rent-a-mum had a website...It'd be nice to have detailed info at our fingertips.

Give Shirley at R-A-M a call to discuss what type of thing you are looking for. They do a nanny service which we we used but I know that they also had a babysitting service as well.

You may not be getting many replies regarding who is good because if you know a great babysitter the last thing you want is for her to be booked by other people all the time!! Many of the families at the peak where I am use rent a mum and private english nannies that they have met through rent a mum to supplement the care of their children - especially newborns.. the thing that stops most people using these services on a regular basis is the cost at it is quite expensive and can cost much more than the actual night out. The families that I do know who use them regularly are generally in the category where cost is not a consideration. Other people inlcuding myself have used the service once or twice in emergencies or when we first arrived.

I am a nanny and registered with RAM. Shirley will have a website up and running very soon. The rates go from 100$/140$/hour, depneding on how many children you have/age.
I work at nights with babies and have regular clients, mums with no helper who needs me when they go out, like Sat afternoons shopping with their husband. I would recommend going via an agency as you are sure about the nanny background...

Thank you both for the info.
Eddy,
Glad to hear a website is coming. Pls let us know more when it's up & running.
Btw, I just want to make sure I understand...Are ALL, or just some of the workers at RAM trained nannies?

I have just had the chance to look at this forum, and would like to thank the clients and nannies who have contributed to this thread so far. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Can I take this opportunity to reassure any families considering using our services, that Rent-A-Mum takes the responsibility of what we do very seriously indeed. The nannies and sitters that we use are placed in accordance to our clients´ and their children´s needs. Some are qualified, others aren´t, but ALL are of good moral character.
Please call me on 852 2523 4868 or email rentamum@netvigator.com for further information. Rent-A-Mum listens!

I have also used RAM, they have sent someone who is friendly, bubbly and also a qualified nurse to look after my 7 month old in an energency. They are also very flexible on schedule and really put my mind at rest when I was panicking about his care for a couple of days ( bad helper experience!). I also know of someone who used their services for babysitting and she found it invaluable. I think sometimes, the piece of mind and ability to NOT worry outweighs the cost.
