I have a large dog who LOVES swimming but nearly all of the beaches on the South Side do not permit dogs - anyone know good walks where he can swim?

Aspect - there is certainly such rules and for responsible dog owners it is nonsense, however unfortunately there are many many iresponsible dog owners out there and going to a beach covered in dog mess is not only totally unsafe and dangerous for children it is totally unpleasant for other members of the public. While we are on the topic of beaches it would be great if people could also clear their own litter away along with cig butts!

I get so angry when I see dog mess or human mess on paths and beaches... It is no hardship to clear it up - I wish more people would do so.

I also understand that nobody wants to swim on the part of a beach which may have had dog mess on it - but if people are going to swim in the sea - you must ask them where they think all the fish pee! All I want to know is if there is a beach on HK Island which does permit dogs?

Thanks

Trio beach is near the HK Marina down Leng Keng Tuk Rd (or something like that) - it is the road you take to go to the Lion Park parking. You can park at the lion parking (need to be back by 5pm though) or you may be lucky to find a park at the end of the road if you are ealry. You floow the road right to the end, and there is a path that goes up behind the yacht club house., that is paved all the way along and is a really nce walk.

Or you can go to Hebe Haven pier and catch a Kudo across to Trio Beach and arrange to be picked up later or walk out along the path.

Another really nice place to take the dog is Brides pool in Tai po, and then there is creek/river in the Sai Kung Country park - park at the gate and walk in - about 200 metres.

Given what comes out of the Pearl River each year - I dread to think about what is in the sea near HK ....

Well if there were junks and pleasure boats nearby - it probably was.

There is a nice walk from Deepwater Bay to Repulse Bay and along the stretch by middle island people are always taking their dogs swimming - a bit rocky on the shore but the dogs don't seem to mind. Also the boardwalk on the other side of Deepwater Bay has stairs down and dogs swim under the boardwalk.

Hi Rain Catcher & Dimac, I am a keen sailor, so I can safely say that the loos on boats have masticators which "chew up" anything into tiny bits which is put down them before it gets flushed into the sea. If someone saw feces was more than likely to have been from a child swimming in the water - not a great thought.

but be careful though about letting your dog swim in the stretch near middle island as there are alot of wakeboarders, fast launchers and novice boaters near the yacht club.

watched the news a couple of weeks ago, whereby there were 37 incidences of stool and puke in public swimming pools. so if they don't care about doing there, then ....

1) I will try St Stephens beach

2) I was talking about Marine Loos - (normal pump loos) which chop up the feces before flushing it out to sea - Most yachts I have ever been on - including the ones we have owned, have all had this type of toilet, most of the junks Ihave been on also have this system - but as we have a yacht, we rarely go on junks so can't say for sure if they do or not - I was just saying that if a "floater" in all its glory was seen in the water near the coast it may well come from a human swimming in that area (posibly a child) rather than a dog.

clear water bay always has heaps of dogs. i have never seen a lifeguard tell any pet owners to leave the beach. even though the announcements come over the PA system periodically telling people that pets aren't allowed. even when the food and environmental hygiene department officers came down they didn't do anything and there were a large group of people with at least 5 dogs right in front of them.

On Copacabana Beach, apart from being full of the 'beautiful people' I saw in the sand and surf plenty of faeces, used tampons, condoms and one rotting bloated rat. I'm sad to say (some) people ruin their surroundings everywhere, not just here.

Vicky,I agree it is people who do not clear up after themselves they do not clear up after their dogs and leave their litter. I find the endless cig butts left on beaches and dog poo very irratating have not seen anything worse than that on my many visits. at the end of the day if it is a beach where dogs are not allowed dog owners should abide by it. beside the dog poo it can be very intimidating for a child to have a large dog bound up to them sure you may have your dog under control not the case with everyone. I too would report dog owners on a beach that disallows them.
