Hi!

We are on our to HK! We will be arriving on Monday (14th Aug). Could someone recommend a GREAT GP or Paediatrician we can use for our bub? We are from Sydney and we need to keep up with the innoculations and keep a close eye on our bubba's lazy eye. What is the general procedure? Do you need a reference from your GP as in Oz to see a paediatrician? What are the costs involved?

Thanks for any help!

Cheers!

we go to richard chiu in central, melbourne plaza. you dont need references from GP to see paediatricians here in hong kong, but you do pay more to see a paediatrician in hong kong. richard chiu charges about 500 for consultation, but sometimes he charges less. his clinic number is 28107018. he even gives you his mobile number sometime and you can even call him at 2 in the morning ( that's what we did once).good luck.

My pediatrician is Dr Tanpa THONDUP in Repulse Bay Tel : 2812 2677 (he also has a practice in Wan Chai near the Grand Hyatt hotel). You'll hear some people saying that he's always in a rush but my experience with him & my newborn baby is excellent so far. I saw him a few times already and he always looked carefully at the baby and took his time for my questions. I think he's very experienced.

His consultation fee is 650HKD.

As for the GP, we go to Dr Werner PAMUK in Repulse bay (Tel : 2813 1978), he's Australian and he's really good and very human.

His consultation fee is 600HKD.

Good luck !

Our pediatritian is Dr. Maurice Leung in Central Building on Peddar Street Tel: 26216188. He was a professor with the HK University and is very experienced and patient with kids. He runs his practice with several other doctors or different disciplines. So all our family records are in one medical office. Dr. Michael is our GP there.

honeypie, yes, he speaks fluent english. he actually won a schoolarship to further his studies somewhere in UK, i think. yes, he is pro-breastfeeding but he doesn't insist on it. he is about 40 years old. very very friendly and patient, and he often take time to explain things to you. we like him very much, only problem is he tends to talk too much sometimes. quite an entertaining guy.

Dr. Maurice Leung is quite good. His specialty is regarding heart problems. So if you want one in Central, he's a great recommendation. If you prefer one in Happy Valley, Dr. CY Yeung is very good. He was Maruice's mentor at HKU. Dr. Yeung's specialty is neonatology. He's at the Sanitorium Hospital. 2835-8607. They both practice general paediatrics, but they also have specialties from their HKU days.
