Light a candle for what? You need to check if they allow casual visitors to light candles in their church. (Not just them but any church.) Best to call them anyway to check. They have a website that lists, among other things, the contact details and times of services.

As you mentioned mass - are you thinking of lighting the candle at St.Josephs?

If so, there is a grotto with a statue of Our Lady behind the church in the carpark. You can go at anytime and light a candle and say a prayer. There are big candles, put $5 in the charity box and small candles, put $2 in the charity box. It is very busy on the weekend and especially on Sunday but there is always space to light a candle and stand at the grotto.

On that basis my original advice still stands as I don't think (I might be wrong) they provide that facility. Here's the website link:

No, but it's the question I posted. It's true it's none of my business and I don't actually want to know. But the point I'm making is that I don't think St John's provide that sort of facility. No doubt you'll check it out before you strike the first match and are accused of trying to burn down the building.

altro, I think lighting a votive candle for a special prayer is a Catholic practice and St John's cathedral is Anglican. I may be wrong but I've only seen candles lit in Anglican churches for decoration or special ceremonies like baptism or Advent. So the people above were right in referring you to St Anne's or St Joseph's instead.

altro,

You chose St John's because of its locality. That's fine, but both Chiriqui & I were heading down the path of St John's not normally providing that facility (because it's Anglican). You have obviously found out from them that they do (which is of particular interest to me, and something that I'll chat to them about next time I'm there, but that's nothing to do with anyone else). No problem. And as for your "it's a thread, is it necessary?!?" that was too profound for me. Good luck with whatever it is you want to light the candle for.
