hi there...
how about there nursery/kindergarten classes? I heard the medium used is English/Mandarin and i was hoping to send my daughter to a English / Mandarin classes rather than canto since she is not familiar with the language.

Do a search - type in KCIS on the search box in the mom and dad's section. There was quite a bit of discussion on this a few months back. the threads explain the difference between international and local streams - and just some of the pros and cons of the school.

My impression on the school is quite good. I visited it some times ago and met many polite pupils. There has more Chinese than Westerners (heard that more westerners choose the local section for studying Mandarin). Yes,they speak fluent Mandarin and English. I think the Int'l section starts from KG , Nursery in local stream with more Mandarin than English. You could call the school for details.

both my children go to kcis (they've been there since kindergarten) because i wanted them to get an international school education within a local environment. the years have their ups and downs (what school doesn't?) but overall i feel the school is going from stregnth to stregnth. kcis bases its curriculum on the BNC with a few cultural and linguistic adjustments. BUT don't expect the children to thrive in a mandarin environment unless you speak the language yourself and/or are willing to put in the time and money to ensure they are proficient in the language.

Any interview/test requires for KG students at KCIS going to Primary 1 in the same school?

Hi
My daugher has an interview with KCIS this week for primary 2. Can anyone tell me what the interview involves? Are there any moms with kids at this school now and what they think of it? Thanks

hey scytran, I just took my daughter there for the P2 interview. I guess we probably saw each other there? It was very easy... but I kind of thought the school looks very drabby and old. But I do know it's a good school. Will see whether she's been accepted first. How about you, what were your thoughts?

hi Moms, my son attends the kindergarten in the local/main section. Its a great school, and yes, there will be the occasional kids speaking in cantonese so english speaking kids may be a bit left out. The school unlike a lot of schools like Chinese International (went there for a tour and HATED the principal and emphasis on family background and money) focuses on education. Yes, its not fancy but it has a great curriculum and history, good playground, the students are polite and well behaved not spolit and most importantly as parents, our kids will receive a very good education from the principal and teachers who value education and dare I say.. not what is the size of your bank balance. I speak and write no chinese but my little son can now at 3 come home and speak some mandarin and sing mandarin songs so I really like the school.

Hi Katetam
We had the interview on Tues at 3.40pm. It was easy as we got the phone call on Wed morning to say that she got in. Although the school looks a bit old but that didn't bothered us too much. We were more concerned about the curriculum and whether the teachers were caring. My daughter said she liked it so we consider sending her there instead of a local school as it will be tough for both myself and her (I cannot read or write Chinese). I'll let her try it out for a year and see what happens after that. The admin staff and the head teacher were very nice and made us feel welcome
