they will ask for further documents if something is missing


usually tax receipt and a copy of work visa and passport initially

Since they require proof of 7 years CONTINUOUS ordinary residence then wouldn't that imply you need to submit documents covering this whole 7 years period, i.e. for every year, not just the first one? And when I applied, I needed to give them a photocopy of every passport page that had any stamp or chop on it, or was it even copy of every page of the passport...? Get the application forms from the Immigration, those come with instructions and a list of required supporting documents.

My husband went in to Immigration to get his PR. He said he didn't have any of his tax receipts. So they sent him next door to the Finance section. He approached the counter and asked for his tax receipts. They went away and came back five minutes later with a printout of all his tax receipts. Then he went back to Immigration and filed his application! He couldn't believe how easy and efficient it was.

This worked for me:

Copy of page of passport showing original entry to HK.

Copy of first visa (although they of course know about that as they issued it in the first place).

Copy of first lease, assuming you rented in your own name.

Copy of current lease.

As suggested by Slammy, ask Inland Revenue and they will give you a one page print out of all your tax payments each year.


Word of warning though, on the form it asks you to confirm that you haven't been absent from HK for more than 6 months, and if you have then to explain why as that would normally mean a "break" and starting 7 years again. As I understand it one of the only exceptions is if you were posted by a HK company abroad for 9 months on business, and were still employed by the HK Company. This was from a friend's experience. He had to start the 7 years again.


However as everyone says, IMD are the only people that will determine, so you need to lay the facts before them, not people on the forum.

What if I only have a salary not above 10, 000hkd per month as Im just a local hired consular staff and As of now I wont be able to lease a flat and have no big amount of bank accounts?
