Plain Sponge Cake

Where can I get a plain sheet-cake made so that I can decorate it myself?

Complete Deelite can do it for $160, but I was thinking that I should make use of the local bakeries like St Honore, Taipan, Amore etc. They do fabulous light, fluffy sponges - I wonder if any of them would make a large, PLAIN rectangle sponge to order? I imagine they would be a lot cheaper too.

Why don't you buy several of the Sara Lee pound cakes and put them together to form a rectangle. I use them for all my birthday cakes, and then decorate to suit your theme. I've made a teddy out of them, and rectangles have become a beach scene, pirate scene, a road scene for bob the builder etc. And they taste good too.

if you're handy in the kitchen, and you have an oven and a mixer, it's not hard to make one from scratch. Otherwise CD's idea is a good one.

Ones from those shops might be light and fluffy but they are devoid of taste. A homemade one is so much tastier and you don't even need mixer. I have a lovely sponge cake recipe from Delia...
