DOUGLAS FIR VS NOBLE FIR

Is there a Christmas tree expert who can tell me whether Douglas or Noble fir makes a better Christmas tree? It seems to me that the Noble fir does not shed its needles, but that the Douglas fir is much more fragrant. Would be keeping the tree a good 3 weeks. Douglas fir is a bit less expensive so I assume that's the one that sheds its needles, but can't remember.

Douglas Fir (actually not a fir) is more popular in the US. Noble is traditional in the UK. Norway Spruce is now the commonest (though not traditional) in the UK. Basically, if you afford it, go Noble.

I know this is an old thread but I think it is appropriate at this time of year to share some knowledge. I have just bought a Christms tree and was deciding between Douglas and Noble. The Noble is more expensive - at 4' the price difference is $100 but at 12' the difference is $1000. The reason is the Noble must be grown higher up in elevation, so less land available to grow, and they grow slower than Douglas Fir. That said, the branches are strong and sparser so easier to decorate, and the tree last longer with just a bit of watering. The Douglas Fir is usually trimmed to get that nice conical shape, has a nice smell but more needles drop. The Douglas Fir used to be the most popular N.A. tree because of its good balance between price and appearance. The noble is more popular in the northern European countries.

Thanks Philly Cheese, which one did you buy? Are you happy with it? Noble seems to be better but Douglas is sold out at two places where I have been.
