Hi I was wondering if anyone know typically how long does it take to receive inheritance from Hong Kong. My grandfather passed in 2008. From 2009 till 2011 I have received inheritance every year. For some reason I haven't gotten anything in 2012. I know that my grandfather has 5 properties and so far only 2 of them have been sold. Typically how much time does the executor have to sell the properties and distribute the money in Hong Kong?

Thank you

If you have received a distribution of inheritance from 2009 to 2011, it is highly likely that a Grant of Probate has been issued by the Probate Registry in Hong Kong. As such the executor or administrator (in the case there was no will) has already commenced the process of distributing the assets. There is no time frame for the administration of the estate but if the administrator wishes to sell the properties, it would only take a few months to do so. We suggest you write a simple letter of enquiry asking the Executor to provide to you an update as to the processing of the estate and specifically about the fact of your distribution being stopped. If you do not receive satisfactory answers to these enquiries you should contact your lawyer for assistance.

I am guessing that since there are 5 properties it takes longer? They didn't sell the 1st property till 2010 and then sold the 2nd one in 2011. How long is the process usally after selling the property and getting the money distributed? Also there is stocks involve usually how long does it take for the stock to be sold and distributed?
