A friend of mine (a rich local businessman) dreams to enroll his son into CIS, but has a feeling that it might not be that easy. I don't know why, but he may have his reasons. He is trying to find out what would guarantee his son a placement in the CIS. Perhaps, a donation? In such case, how much? BTW, he is very generous doing donations in Hong Kong.

to my knowledge, and the advice of my friends who has their kids in CIS....
1) Donation is one way, but it's NOT guarantee. I know someone who donated big $, thought his kid would be accepted, but turned out, during the interview, the kid didn't impress them much, and the grades were not good from previous school, so rejected.
2) Some I know has applied with donation, application fee when their child is just born ! Still, not guarantee.
3) Some say going to the Braemar Hill Nursery (forgot the name exactly).... serves like a feeder school to CIS ? ( i don't know about that one)
4) Someone told me, of course if you KNOW someone in there with higher powers.... gets you a "better " chance.
Ultimately, I really think it depends on the personality of the child, the interview, and any previous school reports.....

Nothing is guranteed. However, if your friend is very rich then presumably he will have some pulls at the school. As long as his kid is average, can speak English, with the large donation, it should be a sure thing.
