what is the general consensus on this? legitimately helpful or a waste of money? i read that you can do it in HK... would it work for a complete skeptic? (ironically the best candidates!)

I know 2 people that have done it and raved. Totally different kinds of people that you would not normally think would like the same things but it helped them both 'find themselves'. Neither could really explain it but one decided she was a lesbian afterwards and I think she was quite sceptical going in. It really put her life on a totally different path but no idea of the long term impact because she changed jobs about 2 months later and I haven't seen her since.

Do a goggle on it, very mixed reviews - some go so far as to say it's a cult (although I have no personal experience).

The girl I knew was definitely a bit brainwashed by it. From what she said it made her look at the world completely differently and it would never be the same again and she couldn't believe that she had not seen it this new way before because now it all made sense. She was having a bit of a mid-life crises when she went though ie: second thoughts on her decision 18mths previously to split with what now looked like the perfect husband and father. She wanted him back now but his heart was broken and he was finally starting to move on.

be careful, not sure for other countries, but in France it is classified as "dangerous sect/cult" since january 1996.

i was roped into one of the intro sessions too and would definitely say the sales people are very pushy. Also agree that if you say that you are happy with your life, they will try and convince you otherwise.
Also to add, I had one friend who fell completely for it, in a fanatic kind of way
Not my cup of tea...

I just want to weigh in on the positives. I did actually "do" the course as opposed to the intro session. I was not brainwashed. I am not a cult follower, just a regular person. It gives you a fresh perspective and helps you not dwell on the little things in life. My grandmother has even done the course in another country and she is the most down to earth and lovely person I know. I am not saying you should do it one way or the other I am just shocked some people are saying such negative things, when in reality they haven't actually experienced the course. I enjoyed it, what more can I say. People come away hyped up because it has helped them - instead of veiwing them as a fanatic just be happy for them. Sometimes course graduates want to share that happiness and would like others to do the course. If they are pushy just say it's great you enjoyed it but I am really not interested. No money goes to those who sign someone up - so although no one should be pushy, I believe there motives are good.

As I still tell my wife, even after 6 years from doing it, I think the Forum's a very powerful way to spend a weekend. Think about it, three consecutive days of asking who am I? What is it to be me? How can I make my own happiness? It's a bit pricey, sure, but isn't insight about your past, who you think you are, and maybe even an injection of enthusiasm worth a few thousand? I still think so. Like I tell my LMD, "fine, it's a cult. You bet. A cult of the empowered." Ever consider that Nike is trying to brainwash the public into supporting their stakeholders? Anyway, that’s for a different argument. In the Forum, you get to apply some genuine Heiddegarian philosophy, something even the old man couldn't prescribe in any convincing way.

Dear Raincatcher,
I agree totally with you the person that was pushy to you, was way, way out of line. I would have told him/her to #!@ for sure. It is a pity some people that have done the course act this way. I am not one. It really is a personal choice. I found it worthwhile but note it is not for everyone.

I did the landmark forum in Melbourne around 18 mths ago. I was roped into it by my girlfriend and expected it to be an Anthony Robbins/you can do it!!/scientology-type exercise. I was pleasantly surprised. I can see why some may call Landmark pushy though.
By the by, my girlfriend got little out of the Forum and plenty out of the Advanced course; I got a lot out of the Forum and zilch out of the advanced course...

It certainly changed the way my brother in law viewed his life. He is far more positive, however, can overdo it a bit and seem a little false. I think if you need it, it cant hurt. If you don't, obviously its just another way to view life. Can be expensive, just be careful eh.
