Medela vs Ameda Electric Dual Pump

Hello to all the mums out there. I am debating over getting a Medela or Ameda electric dual pump. Has anyone got experience or done any research on both? Would like to know which is better, in terms of efficiency, noise, effectiveness, etc, etc? I've heard great reviews on Medela, but Ameda is almost half the price. I wonder is Ameda as good as Medela?

Used Ameda with both pregnancies. There are couple of websites which do "comparisons" which might be worth a look. I love the Ameda - very quiet, doesn't have the "let down reflex" function with the Medela has - which is basically really fast sucking and hard pumping to stimulate your letdown. you CAN do it on the ameda - it's just not automatic - you have to turn the dials and then adjust accordingly.

Friends of mine have the Medela - and all loved it. if you don't intend on pumping for a LONG time (let's say only for about 5 months vs. a year) it may be worth it to instead just rent the hospital grade which is far more efficient at extracting. This is, of course if you aren't working and are just pumping for home. The hosptial grades are bulkier and not as handy to carry around.

If you ARE going to pump at work - I loved the Ameda. There is a thread on here a while back comparing the two and talking about how to source Ameda in HK.

I am one of those who love the two-phase function of the Medela Symphony.

First baby I rented the Symphony from Annerley - and still 100% recommend this to all of my friends.

Now I am pregnant again, and I have bought the Medela Pump In Style Advanced - which is also two phase (like the symphony) but not quite as powerful - the advantage is it travels better and I needed this feature.

The other aspect I like about Medela is the accessories are all the same (bottle, cone thing that goes on your breast, etc...) this way you can use the Symphony at home and get a cheap hand held electric for when you are out. Very useful that all the parts are interchangable.

You can also rent each first so you can 'try' then decide - but that will get a bit expensive.

Hi Ellie

Baby #1 - Jan 2006

Baby #2 - April 2007

15 months apart.

Then no more!!!!

Basically, I said to hubby "If I fully recover from the first one, I will not do this again" Then we discovered we were amazingly fertile - ha ha!!

I am going to stop breast feeding by the end of January (almost 13 months), so baby#1 'forgets' about it for 2 months before baby#2 takes over :)
