Please, please do not get a chocolate lab. They need a ton of exercise to be happy. Not just a backyard, they need to go out and run for at least 30 minutes a day. I know because I owned one when I lived in Australia. It is just not possible to keep a lab happy in Hong Kong unless you have acreage. There are no large parks (like Centennial Park in Sydney) to take them running. I saw a young family walking a golden lab puppy in the middle of CWB last weekend and almost cried. The thing was so weak and sickly (this was a cashed up expat couple). Please reconsider. And please consider getting your dog from the kennel...not a designer dog from a breeder .... I understand that the Hong Kong SPCA is at peak levels with unwanted pets. Please consider.

pookiewoman, have you considered that the original poster might have owned a Lab before too? I think you are making a lot of assumptions on peoples lifestyles. Could the dog you saw in CWB have been a rescue puppy?

My daughter does voluntary work at Hong Kong Dog Rescue in Pokfulam, she says they have some wonderful dogs in need of loving homes ... We'd have a housefull if we had the space! ... Surely worth a look ... check out their website.

Beware of the dog breeders in HK. Though I have four dogs, all pure breed, three bought from a Chinese family who are not for the mere purpose of making money, I strongly recommend as other members say, adopt a pet. My friends did and they are having a really great time together. The pets have been toilet trained, neutered and healthy. Take a look, SPCA, HK Dog Rescue.
I know how proud it is to say to others that "My dog is pure breed" but trust me, we don't really need to wear a LV bag to look great! With retrospect, I could have done more to rescue those homeless pets.
