Does anyone know how to get a French au-pair to come to Hong Kong?
I called a few au-pair agencies in France, they informed that this is the first somebody ever asks for this & that we should get a local Hong Kong au-pair agency look into this for us.
But we cannot locate any. Anyone would know more about this?
On the other hand, any ideas of the costs involved in this as well?
Thanks for your help!

I think the issue here would be the same as for any other foreigner trying to get a job in HK. The prospective employer would need to demonstrate why the job couldn't be performed by a local. Whilst not referred to as 'au pair' there are certainly other local options for child-minding. However, if you can put up a good case to Immigration you could have a show of succeeding. As far as I know, though, she couldn't come here as a 'domestic helper' because there's no agreement between HK and France for that like there is between HK and PH, TH, ID etc. I think if you did manage it you would have to abide by the Employment Ordinance (available on the Labour Dept website) and provide all the ancillary benefits, although there's no prescribed minimum wage. Might be best to make contact with the Labour and/or Immigration Department and ask them direct as I guess there won't be much personal experience for people to share. Good luck.

I am a French nanny and been living in HK for the past 12 years. I have never heard/met another French nanny or Au pair. I know of some young girls coming and working as au pair for 6 months but, most of the time, they come on a visitor visa that they renew by doing a in/out after 3 months. Au Pair means limited hours, the au pair has to follow a course (and that will be difficult in HK because of the visa situation), lives with the family and receive "pocket money" for helping out with children. the Austrlian/kiwi girls can come easily via the working holiday visa but haven't met any of them since the system has been installed.... Good luck and would be interested to know what you find.
