We are looking at an Audi 1999 and want to get it inspected before purchase.

advice would be greatfully recieved for a place to get a Used car pre purchase inspection, i rang the Audi shop and they want to charge 1500, which is very expensive.

ED's NOTE - check our directory for auto shops that can provide a pre-inspection service when buying a used car

If you are buying a used car surely HK$1,500 is worth the expense of an inspection, To be frank I cant see anyone doing it for less than $1,000.

I bought an Audi A6 98 and had it inspected by HP cars 2558 0222, they also have a website. Were very good but will need it for a couple of hours. Things to consider for Audi's are after 80 000km's you will need to replace the steering arms and a couple of other things which will cost you round about 15K. Nice car but parts are pricy

I bought mine on Asia expat but you have to keep an eye on it - good deals go quickly. I am abit skeptical about these auto malls, they are dealers and you pay a premium although you may get a gurantee. Having said that friends of mine have had good experiances. Some PnShops have notice boards with good deals, Parkview, repulse bay, Shouson Hill and McDonell road. If you do buy an Audi try to avoid the Audi dealership they are v expensive and the ones in Horizon Plaza are hopeless so I'v heard . In Germany you can buy imitation Audi parts - not to be confused with China copy, they are approved by Audi, so that is worth looking into. There is alot on the net about tips on what to check for when buying a used car.Good luck

We used Sunrise Motors in Sai Kung, $500, and found them to be quick and honest. let me know if you want their details, I'll have to dig them out. Cheers.

Does the same advice (in terms of cost of replacements, etc) apply to second hand BMW's. There seems to be a shedload of these on the roads in Hong Kong

Klaus93, nope, they are a great little workshop in sai kung, locally owned, wife speaks english. no expectation that foreignors pay more, makes a world of difference to the prices.
