Hi
I am looking to purchase a 2nd hand car and want to make sure that there is no finance against the car.

In Australia there is a number you can ring and check, is there something similar in Hong Kong?

Thanks
Steve

Or do loans in Hong Kong go against a person and not the car?

I think it is included on the registration document. I vaguely remember seeing that when I bought a second hand car. Probably could go ask a dealer or call up your insurance company who should know how this works.

In HK if the car has been bought new by finance, the loan or finance company keep the registration document as well as a signed transfer of ownership document. At the end of the payment plan the registration docs and the signed transfer document is returned to the owner. So if the owner has the documents then they own it outright.
