I am a Black foreigner and my wife is ethnically Chinese (Hong Konger). We are expecting our first child in a few months. We both have full time jobs at the moment and reside in Shatin/Taiwai area. I need some advice on a few things.

1. We are currently NOT considering hiring a domestic helper after my wife gives birth and I was wondering if anyone can recommend if there are any Nanny/child care services available in Hong Kong where the Nanny/child care worker comes and looks after the child in our home during the hours when we are at work?

If not are there any trustworthy inexpensive child care centers in Hong Kong that we can take our child to during the time we are at work?

Nanny/child care worker has to be very fluent in English

I assume that you have considered using the in-laws to help you out while you are at work? The only other option I am aware of is using a part-time maid or live-out maid. We employed a maid who would work 8am til 6pm and then live in a nearby boarding house.

In-laws are all working full day time jobs. Is this option you proposed legal?

A live-out maid is perfectly legal. If you were to hire a maid, ie. sign their contract you are responsible for providing accommodation, this can take the form of living in your residence or in a boarding house. It may be a little more expensive but would solve your child- care problems.

You can hire a professional nanny who will come and look after your child in your home.
The best bet is to call an agency, rent a mum, Shirley robinson, 25234868.
Cost are 30 to 45k a month...
