Hi,
I am new to Hong Kong and have a question about power points!!
The serviced apartment I am staying at doesn't have a power point in the bathroom and therefore I can't blow dry my hair in there in front of the mirror.
Now I am about to move into a permanent apartment and noticed that both bathrooms there also don't have any power points in the bathroom!
Is this normal for Hong Kong or is it just a coincidence?

Of course, there is the safety aspect, same reason wall-mounted light switches are outside of the bathroom. In the UK, only shaver sockets are permitted in a bathroom.
From the ESMD:
+++ In a room containing a bath or shower, the provision of socket outlets should comply with IEC 60364-7-701 (to be installed at location 0.6 m away from shower basin or bath tub) and the socket outlets should be protected by a residual current protective device (RCD) with a residual operating current not exceeding 30mA. When a circuit designer who is a Registered Electrical Worker for Grade A, B or C considers it appropriate for the situations under consideration, additional safety measures may be used. These measures include the use of a dedicated circuit or a dedicated circuit protected by an isolating transformer.+++
Perhaps in build-it-cheap HK, many developers can't be bothered. And although we have a high wall socket in our bathroom, I don't use it - trained from an early age not to have electrical appliances in the bathroom and anyway the last thing I need is extra bathroom humidity frizzing up my hair.

Thanks for your replies.
In Australia we always have power points in bathrooms!
I have a dressing table on the way over here from home, so I'll just dry my hair in front of that once it arrives - in the mean time I will have to get a small mirror for the bedroom!
I just had another thought - we have an electric tooth brush on the way from home too - we'll have to power this in another room as well! That is annoying.

most electric toothbrush bases fit into a shaver socket - you could ask your landlord:
1. to install a shaver socket
or
2. to allow you to pay an electrician for a shaver socket to be installed.

Actually it not uncommon to HAVE outlets in the bathroom - most of my Hong Kong apartments have had them, including the current one.
And to be clear it is a full blown outlet, not just a shaver socker - 3 prongs and I happily run things like a hair dryer or space heater on it.

Our bathroom power points are hidden away at the back of the under sink cupboards - inconveniant to get to but at least they are there.

The power points in our bathrooms are inside the above-sink cupboards - definitely not 0.6m away from the sink, and they are full-power sockets.

Apparently it is 0.6m from shower/bath tub, not sink. Mine are open and less than 6 inches from the sink.
