Is there a maternity leave allowance for male employees in Beijing?
I am a foreigner working in Beijing and I am about to become a father. I would like to take maternity leave so I can spend some time with my wife and newborn but the HR of the company says there is no such thing. Does anyone know if this is really so? Is there a labour regulation relating to maternity leave for male employees in Beijing?

What industry do you work in and is it a 'local' or international company? Also, how long have you worked for them? Would be easier to respond to your query if you can provide more details.
Start by checking the terms and conditions stated in your employment contract and in the Employee Handbook (if they have one).
If its a large international company, you could consider negotiating with HR, particularly if they have offices in other countries where paternity leave is an entitlement.
Might be able to suggest some more option if you can provide more details...

It is a local company, owned by a larger HK company. I have been with them for over a year and a half. With regard to the contract, it is a basic standard contract with no stipulations.
