I'll say up front that I think this is quite funny and am likely to pay up and move on. Before I do I thought it worth checking here to see if anyone has experienced this before.
I recently received a 'notice requiring identification of driver' from the HK Police. They allege I crossed a continuous white line while driving my car on Gloucester Road a few weeks back.
I'm not much of a lane jumper and wasn't pulled over at the time so I figured it must be a mistake. I called to enquire and the PC told me a member of the public made a complaint and provided video evidence of my infringement! The PC was very polite and invited me to come in and view the footage, which I will do this Friday. I expect the footage will be quite conclusive.
My question - do Police actually rely on these public statements of complaint and privately taken video footage into Court as evidence to pursue a conviction....or do they just try their luck this way to see if they can get drivers to admit the offence?
Apparently there are quite a lot of cars fitted with onboard camera systems these days, ostensibly to provide evidence in the event of a crash. More commonly it seems they're used by concerned citizens to dob in fellow drivers who break the law and feature on Apple Daily regularly (typically involving Ferraris).
Many thanks
NOTE - for the record I drive a plain old Subaru wagon!

Yes the footage is good evidence in court when supported by a comprehensive statement. There are people out there with nothing better to do so be careful
