Try picking up a leisure activity - I found playing hockey and baseball when i first came to Hong Kong the best way to meet new people

Hi Brit Wit!

It would be good to meet up sometime. I am also looking to expand my circle of friends since a lot my friends have left HK, and more leaving..... a sad thing about HK.

Maybe you could send me a pm and we can exchange our contact details.

Hi all

I am struggling with meeting new people also. I have been here a year and do not have any social life at all, mainly because I am not very outgoing (until you know me!) and therefore not good at joining clubs etc. I am in my early 40s, mum to one 16 year old with a full social life, and husband who is very understanding but doesn't get much time off. I think I am starting to get depressed.

Anyone got any ideas? Much appreciated.

i reckon joining sports club is the best way to meet people but i also notice that most of us r too lazy to go out to meet new people or scared of meeting someone you dont know.

well, seems there are quite few of us feeling the need to get to know more friends, i reckon Brit Wit should organize a nite out for all the girls....dinner or drinks!!??

what do you think Brit Wit???

I joined the American and Australian clubs when I first arrived. I also joined the paddle club and learnt how to dive through ProDive (I was terrified :). This provided me with a great range of new people to meet and led to some wonderful friendships.

Since you are a wit, might I suggest the open mike nights at TakeOut Comedy at 34 Elgin Street, every Tuesday at 8 pm; or take a standup comedy class with Jami Gong (there's one this October 11). I've done it, lots of fun, you meet FUN people! They've got shows there every Friday and Saturday nights at 9:30, too.

I've also been in HK for quite some time and still find it difficult to meet friends. I'd love to find a circle of friends to meet on a regular basis. If anyone's interested in meeting for movies, drinks, etc or if you have anything organised, do PM me.

Hey girls why don’t we meet up? I always thought I am the only one with this problem…

Here’s my side of the story, maybe its post holiday depression or it could be something else… I have been feeling quite depressed these days. Feeling alone in this big city… It looks like I belong here (I was born here, but I moved to New Zealand at 14) but I don’t, I made some local friends here but I simply don’t feel we share the same values. I miss going out with girlfriends, talk and laugh… PM me if you want to meet up for dinner, lunch (central Mon-Fri), try salsa (I want to try but not motivated enough to go alone), shopping, talk, hike, try out different things ^.^

Hello,

I'm in a similar situation...

Me & my new husband recently moved to HK. He works away several days of the month & I am finding it quite lonely home alone! I am looking to meet new female friends but I'm not quite sure what the best way is to meet people? Do you have any idea's? I've been looking at clubs to join but have no idea where to start. I'm a brit in my late 20's.

I think I am in the same position as you, I work late, alone and there is not much social time. I know what it's like, got to make the effort, or I will be a recluse! Happy to hear from you if you'd like to leave a message here. My name is Fiona.

Hi ladies,

Some of my friends are members in Hong Kong American Women's Association. It's a voluntary organisation with lots of activities and you can make friends there!!

Next Thu there will be a charity bazaar at Jockey Club, Happy Valley. I was there last year and it was great fun! There were many vendors, occupying three floors and some special events. And lots of expats are there too! Check it out at: www.facebook.com/awahk

Hope this info will help you to look for friends :)
