We are moving to Hong Kong in July and my son will be attending Glenealy school. Do parents walk their children to and from school from Dynasty Court up and down Old Peak Road? It seems that the road is just way too steep to walk daily.

That's is not helpful information I am looking for as a parent. Nor do I appreciate the sarcastic remark. I am obviously in the wrong forum.

Provided that you wear non-slip footwear in wet or foggy weather you and your kids will be fine. Lots of old people walk up the whole way to the top of the Peak from the bottom, every morning. Well, not exactly the top, but it is a fair walk. Much further than you would be doing.

Had a look at Google Maps. Google suggets it is 500m and only 6 min. I think this is way under as the road is steep but not impossible. How about approaching the school and asking the same question? There might be other parents who would be happy to pick up your son in the mornings.
Have a look at Google maps (short link) http://goo.gl/maps/XQhHu

Also be aware that when it rains heavily in Hong Kong, walking can be very difficult. The record rainfall is something like 24 inches in 24 hours, when it rains heavily you just cannot see out of the window, everything is grey!
So you need back-up options for bad weather.

You can walk, a bit slippery in the rain as mentioned above but there are steps most of the way close to the building which I think are easier than the slope. Also the tower nearest the bottom has a back entrance, not sure if everyone can use it or just that tower?

I suggest that you need to get your own car that is pretty normal for expats to drive their kids to the school or the school should have the school buses ?
I hope my advice can help a bit.

Why not walk? Surely it is not necessary to own a car, just so you can drive your kid 500 metres to school?

Definitely walk. It would be madness to get a car for this purpose or to go to the expense of the school bus!

I went to Glenealy and if you're living at Dynasty Court it is definitely a walkable. That is actually quite a short distance compared to the amount of walking that could be done in other parts of Hong Kong. --- Don't think it's necessary to get a car for this. School bus is one thing to consider especially during rain but it is literally a 5-10 minute walk.

Actually, I dont' think the reply's here are intended to be smart or sarcastic, it is a reality that A: People living centrally do walk to from work/school etc, often (weather pending) it's the quickest way to get around. B: Be prepared for wet or hot conditions that's all. I've lived in Soho for years, lots of steep hills and paths there, par for the course in HK!
