Unfortunately, the driving school I checked out in the Pokfulam area, doesn' t have English speaking instructors. You really do have to go to Causeway Bay. I was in the same position as you. I went to Henry, didn't like him and switched to Peter, who has better English. You can find their numbers in the Dollarsaver. It's a pain in the tush to get out there, but just do it. You'll be driving before you know it. I signed up for five or six classes and only used three before I felt confident enough to go out there on my own.
Good luck. You can do it!!!!

In my experience it’s not easy to find a good English-speaking instructor, especially one who has a manual car and teaches on the HK side.
I eventually found Leo Kong, whom I’d definitely recommend. I have had several teachers in HK and elsewhere in the past and he has been the best. He is a good teacher - he corrects mistakes and provides lots of useful hints and advice for the actual test, but does not constantly tell you what to do as many driving teachers do. I failed my test at least 4 times (I lost count) before having lessons with him, but finally passed after his lessons so it clearly works! He is also a nice guy and speaks perfect English.
He teaches both on the Kowloon side and on the HK side (Causeway Bay / Happy Valley, which is where most instructors seem to teach). His phone and whatsapp is +852 9055 1305, email konnam@gmail.com
There is a link to a list of driving instructors, indicating who speaks English and who teaches on the Kowloon side / HK side / in the NT on the Transport Department website on this page http://www.td.gov.hk/en/public_services/licences_and_permits/driving_test/
(Name List of Group 1 Private Car & Light Goods Vehicle (LGV) Driving Instructors). However it does not show who teaches manual and who teaches automatic (having spoken to a lot of them, the vast majority are automatic).
As this question has been asked quite a few times I’ve posted my answer in several forums.
