I have been thinking of undergoing Gastric Bypass Surgery. It is available in Hong Kong? Does any body know where I can get some info?

I think it would have to exist here, first step I imagine is to see your GP and get a referal to a gastric surgeon.

GBS is not common in Hong Kong. You might be better off having the surgery done where it is more common (such as the US) as the surgeons would be far more experienced.

I saw this on the Tyra banks show last night. One woman had lost a lot of weight, the problem was the excess skin. She had about 2 metres (I kid you not) of excess skin cut off after.

Mind you she looked really good afterwards.


The other woman, was refused the surgery until she gave up smoking etc.. app. she had already had it before, but it got infected as she was in too bad shape. She herself had lost 500 pounds, so it is a huge change.. Also she had a substandard doctor so needs the original surgery corrected.


hope this helps. Take time to search out a good doctor seems to be really important.

@B88 - did you get an answer? I'm also post-op and looking for who to contact for blood tests and follow up support. I contacted one hospital with a bariatric team and they suggested travelling back to Belgium for check ups.

The Chinese university private clinic - Dr Simon wong covers this. I had a gastric band done in the Middle East and he is doing my follow ups here. I have a problem with reflux and he has suggested that I have the bypass done. He has performed around 20 operations to date which I am a bit nervous about. Has anyone here had it done and can give me advice ?
