Pepper or chilli powder sprinkle over the car a few times. The cats will soon learn to avoid the car as the lick thier paws and get a mouthful. Worked for me 10 years ago and the cats still havent come back even after changing cars twice.

I had thought in the past of sprinkling pepper all around the car, but had worried that the wind might just blow it away.

Your method is an interesting idea...watch this space. I guess it might take a while before the current batch of feral cats all have had their taste. Just hope they don't keep having feral kittens who also come!

Any strong citrus scents tend to repel cats. A solution of either lemon, orange, or citronella oil and water should suffice. Otherwise, vinegar and water can work, but this is a far less smell for humans.

Sprinkled two small jars of black pepper around the car yesterday evening. Later the feral cat was back! I guess the coverage on the ground was not of sufficient density!

I tried it on the bonnet before..also very messy..

Where do you buy citrus oils? I hope its not fresh orange juice that is required!

Sorry for not being specific. I used white pepper on the car roof, boot and bonnet.
