why LCD TV price in HK is even much more expensive expensive than in UK and US?

I am trying to buy a LCD TV and doing some reach. I found that a similiar TV (same brand, size, series, but different product number probably due to difference broadcast television systems), it is much more expensive in HK than in other countries. I originally thought HK is a heaven for electronic devices and gargets due to low taxes...?

For example: Samsung 6 series LCD TV 46 inch

Hong Kong:

Samsung Series 6: LA46A650: HK$21,900 Lowest Price. http://www.price.com.hk/product.jsp?p=107414

Samsung Series 7: LA46A750R1F: HK$23,780 Lowest price. http://www.price.com.hk/product.jsp?p=108543

Samsung Series 8: LA46A850S1F: HK$26,500 Lowest Price. http://www.price.com.hk/product.jsp?p=108597

UK:

Samsung Series 6: LE46A656: £1,067.47 - £1,401.63 ~= HK$12,800-HK$16,800 use a converstion 1GBP=12HKD

US:

Samsung Series 6: LN-46A650A : US$1,350-$2,100 ~= HK$10,500-16,300

Samsung Series 8: LN-46A850A : US$1,700-$2,800 ~= HK$13,000-21,700

If we just look at lowest price, you can see that HK's price is almost 2x than those on UK and US which probably have at least 7-17% VAT.

Anyone shed some light on why this can happen?

I did visited many stores and asked prices. What I can get for LA46A650 is about $20,000 if I give up the gift of a 32" TV. The listed price for LA46A650 is $28,000 and usually you can get it at $25000 with the 32"TV. So I believe the price people provided on the www.price.com.hk is reliable.

Dennyboy, if you are talking about the stuff in Mongkok, I think many of them are "Sui Fo", which is usually smuggled and not factory ganranteed. And even that is more expensive than UK/US products which includes ganrantee.

If you know where I can buy a "Hang Fo" (dealed by a licensed local dealer of Samsung) LA46A650 at a price range of HK$10000-HK$16000, please let me know. I am seriously want to buy one at a reasonable price.

Hi Same is my story. I also would like to Buy Sony 55 inch HX850 or Samsung EX8000. Hong Kong Price HKD31000 to 34000. but same model in Thailand and Singapore price about HKD16000 to 18000.

I asked one shop keeper he said Hong TV's used douple entinna inside TV, but its not clear to me what doest mean by double entinna. Anyone know what is the meaning of double entinna and why prices are higher then other countries.

I think the shop keeper means they have dual tuners (NTSC/PAL). An external tuner would only cost between $40-300 USD, so TV's are still overpriced compared to the US.
