Dear All,

We had a baby boy on 17th August 2012, he is born in hong kong and my wife is a British and having a permanent Hong Kong Resident ID i am a bit confused about,

1. Can I apply for the dual passports for my Baby one HKSAR other the British as my wife is a British mom and also having Chinese Blood, As her grand mother was a Chinese.

2. Which should be applied first. The British or the SAR.

we already registered the birth of my baby and his birth certificate stating that he has permanent right to aboard in HKSAR.

Does your wife have 3 stars on her ID card?

If the baby is eligible for the HK passport, you can apply for both passports at the same time. Just don't say that the child has another passport. Although I think on the HK form (which you can view online) there's no question about other passports, only questions about the child's nationality, which you write as "Chinese".

If your wife has 3 stars then the baby can get a HK passport.

If not, then I'm not sure what the rules are but you could try anyway. But you need to be able to prove the Chinese blood from the grandmother's side. Do you have her birth certificate - or any kind of ID card?

If your wife is not ethnically Chinese, that is to say with no 3 star ID card and HKSAR passport then no.
