I have recently moved into a new flat in mid-levels which I love- it ticks all the boxes. However- I have come to discover that the old lady upstairs is exceptionally noisy from 5am onwards.
Every morning I am woken by her movement- chairs scraped and dragged, objects moved, dropping objects. I don't actually know what causes the noise but it is loud enough to wake me up.
This morning at 5:30am I went upstairs to stand outside her door and it was confirmed the noise came from her. My boyfriend went up a little later to see her with her door open, moving furniture!!
I have complained to my landlord and suggested carpet to dull the noise. My landlord claims to have gone upstairs and says the noise does to come from the old lady.
I have recordings on my phone of how loud it is. Neither my boyfriend nor I get any sleep past 5am.
I understand she is old so cannot lift chairs to move them etc but this is occurring every morning and even after complaining the noise has not subsided.
I can't talk to her as she does not speak English so I am at the mercy of working through an incompetent landlord (who also lives in the building).
Any suggestions as to do what to do? Ear plugs haven't helped and don't want to move again!

how about helping the old lady to put floor protectors onto her chairs and furniture? that way when she moves them, it doesnt make the same amount of sound

The thing is, she doesn't care. After my landlord trying to talk to her last week trying to inform her that we hear all her loud movements, she only seemed to increase the noise this morning. By 9am this morning, she had moved a number of chairs and a small chest outside her front door, which is obviously what she started at 5am. To do a task like this at this time is unacceptable.
The flat opposite hers have told me that she is a nightmare neighbour. She regularly calls the police to complain if they make noise after 10pm. Why does she think it is acceptable to make noise at 5am then?

usually your are not allowed to make noise from 11pm til 7am so call the police on her at 5am….drastic but may work
