anyone know what the regulations are if we want a wedding in macau - can we get it officiated by a local celebrant there or do we need to get that done in HK first... (especially since regulations have changed recently..) Thanks a lot.

In Macau, if you are not a resident, you have to present your birth certificates and a "certificado de capacidade matrimonial", a certificate declaring your capacity for marriage but you might be able to make a declaration there. Also proof of divorce or death of spouse, if applicable.

As far as I know, there are only two places where marriages are officiated in Macau.

We were married in Macau in 1997 at the Cathedral. Since we were not residents of Macau, the priest (in Macau) told us that the easiest thing to do would be to get married in Hong Kong first. We had a City Hall wedding one Friday about a month before our "real" wedding. The actual ceremony takes about three minutes. We then had a big church wedding in Macau the following month. We brought our own priest over from Hong Kong because we wanted the ceremony in English. We then had a great reception at the Military Club afterwards (friends in Macau who were members helped us organize this).

As for new regulations, I can't help you with that. If you're looking for a church wedding in Macau, best to discuss that with the appropriate person at the specific church.

Good luck!
