Less Than 6 Months on a UK Passport - Visiting Bali

We want to go on holiday to Bali but my 10 y.o. daughter's passport expires in December.

Most places say that you need to have at least 6 months left on a passport - can anyone say if this really is a hard and fast rule?

Given the appaling state of the UP Passport office it will take around 2 months to renew it.

I once ran into this problem flying to Indonesia and i was 5 days short --- they refused to let me on the plane...

Thanks. Since posting this I got in touch with the British Consul and they can do a 1-year passport extension there and then, so I've made an appointment for next week.

I also spoke to the Indonesian Consulate here, they wll accept an extended passport so I'll get the visas there as spon as we get teh extension on the passport.
