IVF (QMH)

I was told the same thing when I went to Queen Mary. Before I went to Queen Mary, I had an HSG at a private clinic which showed that my tubes were clear. The doctor at QM said that if I have endometriosis, then the adhesions could still make pregnancy difficult even if my tubes were clear. Laparascopies can be useful if there are adhesions from endometriosis, as well as in cases of PCOS where the ovaries need drilling. You can look up both procedures on this site.

Because my tubes were clear, and because there are risks of scarring from laparascopy itself, I decided not to do a laparascopy (the private doctors that I consulted didn't recommend it in my case). In the meantime, a private doctor that I consulted thought I had PCOS. I went back to Queen Mary, and asked them to see if I had PCOS. They disagreed with the PCOS diagnosis, but agreed to put me on the waitlist for IVF, since at that point, I had already had 3 IUIs and 1 IVM.

It seems that Queen Mary does laparascopies pretty routinely. In your case, did they explain why you needed it? Do you have pain associated with possible endometriosis? Do you have PCOS? To put your mind at rest, you may want to get a second opinion. I would recommend Dr. Christine Choy, who I started seeing recently. I have also heard good things about Dr. Philip Ho. You can search comments about both doctors on this site.

I had laparascopy last year and it was a routine. However, it is a kind of operation and needed to stay in hospital for few days. I was told I had problem eventually, so it is worth to do once in your life.

Unfortunately, NO! I decided to leave it for a while last year (I did the operation at the end of June) because I needed a rest and recovery. Anyway, I have just had a IUI last month but failed. So thinking about IVF now but cost hell a lot of $$. Don't know what to do really. May be adoption is my option eventually. (Honestly, I am quite upset)

Hi Desperatemom,

Did your doctor suggest that you must go for Diagnostic Laparoscopic ? This operation could diagnose :-

1) Whether is there tube block better than HSG, 2) Whether fibroids or cyst could be remove at

same time,

3) Whether is there Endometrosis, as from scan

couldn't seen properly,

4) Is much more effective before IUI or IVF and

age below 33, as at age 34 - 40 pregnancy will

be delayed for 15% success rates only.

5) The Laparoscopy doesn't hurt too much only

feels stomach cramp on mild period, as I had

ask for more painkiller on 1st day admission

by IV (uses 4 pack IV painkiller me age 29).

6) This operation doesn't needs hospitalisation,

unless your MPF covers for it to claim max,

then, opt to stay 1 night is advisable.

7) On the first day surgery, no food & drink or

even water after 9am if schedule surgery at

4pm, Goggy on same day; goes to toilet only

with nurse assistance, must.

Overall experience, laparoscopic surgery 1 week can resume simple activities, but not housework. 2nd week can do simple light cooking, & mop floor.

3rd week can do light exercise, & loves from hubby haha.

better diagnose early.....to detect cancer during laparoscopic lesser pain as only small uterus sample is done for test.....

take it easy,

hope you preg as soon.
