Does anybody know what the first pre-natal test involves at the Tsan Yuk hospital. I'm wondering if I need extra tests eg down syndrome(im 35) or do they include this and if I need extra ultrasounds if they only perform 1 etc. Its the first time pregnant....can you tell??????

First test is the general bood test (blood group, iron levels etc). They will then book you for your 20 week structural scan, glucose tolerance test, OSCAR (that is where they look for down syndrome) and anything else they think you need.
Depending on how many weeks is the fetus, depends on when you get the tests. They do cost, from memory $60 for the blood tests and $100 for ultrasounds.
If you want more tests or ultrasounds (mostly for reasurrance or if the say you don't need a test, but you really want it) then you have to get it done privately. Otherwise they are a one-stop-shop.

im 7weeks and first scan is set for 12weeks. I noticed the helen woo(private centre within tsan Yuk public H) do a downs scan at 11weeks and 16 weeks ($1700)
but i've been told its not worth it to do a test this early as even less reliable???
Any idea?

It all depends on what you would do it you found out your baby had down syndrome. If you would terminate, then an earlier test would possible be mentally and physically easier. If you would continue the pregnancy, then the regular 18 week scan is sufficient.
But I am not sure of the reliability of an 11 week test. It would be very hard to identify the spinal canal (which is the bit that indicated the possibility of Down Syndrome). At 16 weeks, it should be reliable.
