The dreaded '2 week wait'

ORIGINAL POST

We are a week into the dreaded 2 week wait to see if our ivf cycle has worked. The suspense is killing me....but was wondering, if it hasnt worked, how soon do you find out?

Does your period come quite quickly or does it mess with your head and if its coming, it comes just before you take the pregnancy test?

Usually blood is taken for HCG testing (pregnancy test) 2 weeks from OPU/ ET.

If it is taken too early, it may give a false positive from the hCG injection given for support after embryo transfer.

most of the time, the patient will have some progestogen support, so it is unlikely there will be bleeding at the time of the blood test.

Just thought Id let you know that I have been to the doctors office this morning and have had a confirmed positive pregnancy test! I cant believe it. The doc was happy but reminded us that this is very early days and he wont be happy until we hear the heart beat at 6 weeks. So....another 2 weeks of waiting and worrying! I dont think I will believe its happening until I hear it. Its amazing to know that Im pregnant but also concious that we have a long way to go yet.

Anyone still trying out there....it will happen to you. We never thought we would get this far and we have.

I used Prof Haines at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Shatin. Its a bit of a trek but worth it since the cost is half that of any clinics in Cental.

Hi asking! Congrats and really happy to hear the great news!

Would you mind sharing how much the cost was pls at POW for the IVF?

The cost of IVF with ICSI was approx HKD43K plus about HKD3K for more expensive stimulation drugs. Huge difference when comparing private clinics in Central that charge approx HKD70K!

Hi Asking

If you don't mind can you tell us how much time before you had consulted with hospital for IVF to be more clear do you have to book with them for IVF or you can directly go to them and ask for IVF

I was referred to POW by my doctor. We obtained an appt quite quickly and from there we worked with the doc to see when the cycle could start. As long as the dates line up you can start straight away I suppose - we didnt have any delays.
