Just did it. I had my 5th baby at Queen Mary. My first in HK. I went to Tsan Yuk for some of my antenatal check ups. I don't remember but I think I had a referal from my GP first. I would give Tsan Yuk a ring and see if you need a referal to make an antenatal appointment. You will go to TY for your first appointment and for your ultrasounds/glucose tolerance tests etc. Then, if you are low risk they send you to another Maternal and Child Health Centre until your 30 weeks check up. I went to Ap lei chau, but that will depend on where you live.
Tsan Yuk is a bit like a cattle market and take a book! It gets the job done though and the nurses are pretty friendly. Is this your first baby?

I did my checks in T Yuk & delivered at Queen mary. TY was OK...nurses OK...but I found that Q Mary did not know anything about my history in T Yuk!
Queen Mary was horrible. They butcher people & were my living nightmare. Would never advise anyone to use them. Thanks to them...we wont have anymore kids.

I am having my monthly antenatal check ups at a private obgyne, but I am planning to go deliver at QMH, and they advise me to go register at tsan yuk first before they will accept me at QMH. I got my ultrasound already....anyway I think I better get a referral from my obgyne before I will go there.
Thanks for your inputs....

1st pregnancy at Ty and delivery at QMH in January and we are starting all over again already. Follow-up is OK until you have some specific questions, then the doctors sometimes seem a bit at loss to provide you with a suitable answer, otherwise they are extra careful in checking everything.
Delivery at QMH was as good an experience as delivery can be, ended up with a C-section under epidural after 10 hours labour so no rush, but only 2 nights as the hospital after delivery was definitely too short.

Ok, here is the scoop. If you plan on delivering at QMH, you do have to register at Tsan Yuk for antenatal check ups. Call 2589-2387. They will give you an appointment for following Wed or Sat. You need to have Dr's referral (stating that you are pregnant as they do not do pregnancy tests), your hkid card, passport (if you are not a permanent resident) and copy of your husband's hk id card.
First appointment will take 2-3 hours. They take all personal info, show you a video, do blood tests and give you an ultrasound (if you are less than 20 weeks) to date your pregnancy.
They offer antenatal classes but you do not have to take them however, you do have to keep your dr's appointments, even if you are doing private antenatal check ups.
Hope this helps and maybe I'll see you there....

We do antenatal checkups at our clinic in Lyndhurst Terrace too. It involves a routine checkup with the midwife for 30 minutes, and most women that are registered at government hospitals and will give birth there will go to government clinics around 1 out of 3 times, but come to us in between. The routine blood tests and ultrasound are done at the government clinic, but other routine urine test, blood pressure, checking the uterus and listening to the baby is done by us. This usually decreases the waiting time quite a bit, and plus you get a private health care without too much extra cost. The charge for each antenatal checkup is 280 HKD, and it gives you 30 minutes with the midwives.
