I can not comment on other hospitals but condition allowing the midwives at matilda help the mother assume the most comfortable position for her during labour-we have bean bags and mats if you prefer and a bath in the deliver room (not for delivery) should water ease the pain of contractions. Each delivery is individual. For the actual delivery most ladies use the delivery bed - not necessarily stirups but by that point it is up to the doctor to work with you on the position for delivery and the bed tends to give them a better view.
Hope this information helps you can always give our midwives a call for extra details 2849 0321.

My midwife at Annerley mentioned that with an epidural you could lie on your side. This position is still much better than lying on your back.
I'm giving birth at the Prince of Wales hospital in Shatin and I'm thinking of trying the hands and knees or side lying position (depending on how tired I am!). I'm due in about 4 weeks time!
All the best to you GisaJob!

Hi GisaJob
I should give birth in a few days in QMH. I have presented my birth plan in Tsan Yuk to 2 doctors and to 1 senior doctor . In my birth plan I explain what I would like and talk about gravity and squatting, none of them was shoked and they even approved. But I'm aware that it will depend of the team and of the time they have to take care of you... some are more understanding than others. One thing : all my freinds told me that if you accept the gaz or the injection it doesn't help to sooth the pain but just make you dizzy.
If you ask for epidural you'll have not strengh anymore to squatt. So you can squatt only if you decide to control the pain by yourself, and the pain is more bearable if you can move the way you want, and it's better for the mother and her baby. good luck :-)
