16 Week Bloods

Is it normal in HK to just get a simple "negative" for the 16 week blood tests?


I'm with Dr Ho and having paid over $1,000 for these a few weeks ago I was expecting a more detailed report. Especially as in the UK it is quite normal to be given specific figures for downs screening, ie 1:5000 etc .....


Is this something you have to ask for here?

I have not had this test performed yet, but my experience (albeit limited)with the HK doctors is that you have to insist upon knowing all the details or they will give you a simplified (patronizing) answer. I find that this is not enough information for my own personal satisfaction as I am accustomed to being in control of my own healthcare choices. So, to summarize - yes - if you want to know you will have to ask.

I had my nuchal test done and my doctor gave me the exact results for trisomy 18 and trisomy 21. I even asked for a copy of it to bring to Tsan Yuk and she photocopied the lab results for me. Yes, go ahead and ask for exact figures.... What is "negative" to them may mean more investigation to you. Personal choices in getting amnio's or other screenings done.

i don't think you should have to ask - its pretty poor form of your doctor not to explain everything. my doctor explained what the results might come back as and what that means before the test and then explained the test results thoroughly when they came back. for the money you pay I would expect better service. I went to Dr Depasquale (better known as DR D) and for the record he was not late once - fantastic service!

Mummy - Yes, these were just given over the phone. Did Dr Ho dicuss yours in detail with you? Was it upon your request?
