I tested +ve this morning, day 29. The vertical line was quite strong, but thinner on one side than the other. Tomorrow I'll go for the blood test to check HCG levels. Then another 2 week wait for a heartbeat... no wonder they compare it to baking!!!
I just hope and pray that this time all goes well. Please keep your fingers crossed for me?
Very tired, bb tenderness, been feeling kinda premenstruaL for the last week, appetite much less, though my stomach rumbles. When does nausea usually set in?
And I'm travelling on work next week, can't help it. Doc says should be OK, but I'm a bit worried.
xx

wow firsttimemon all the best with the blood test. Try not to worry about the travel (where are you going?) as this will just add stress which yo don't won't. Keep us up to date with it all. Fingers, legs and arms crossed!!!!!

Thanks Perthites. Going to KL on work. The roads are not bad there. My last miscarriage was due to our car slamming into a series of really high speed bumps in the UK, so if this happens again I'll go spare.

Firsttimemom - just wanted to say congratulations! I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you too and hope everything goes well.
I am now 12 weeks and had my scan the other day - it was amazing!
Please support our advertisers:
Asking, coooool! You are through to the 2nd trimester, past the danger mark. Wonderful. I'm looking forward to the 6 week scan with a mixture of apprehension and hope. I don't even know if I'll get that far! Every trickle, every cramp, every backache and twinge gets my blood racing. Ugh.
Simplythebest!!!! FANTASTIC news! How cool is this. When did you get the results?
Yes, it doesnt take me long, my problem is KEEPING it. It seems to be easy come, easy go. My TCM doc told me that you lose a little chi with each miscarriage. I don't want to lose any more chi, I can tell you that!
Mummy! thanks so much. Yes, fingers crossed for all of us.
Telling you all has held me back from telling my folks. I dont want to dissapoint them with bad news again, so its great that I can spill the beans here!
Cheersxx

Telling People
We didn't tell anyone until the beginning of the 4th month - then we told family first, then work, then close friends, then everyone! Everyone understood that we weren't deceiving them, and many close friends guessed (me passing up champagne at a party was the dead give away for a few!!).
About Travel
I travelled for work and holiday in my first trimester to Beijing, Shanghai and South Asia as well as other countries, here is my advise:
1. you might be more tired than usual, so schedule time for naps/rests between meetings, etc... plan on taking taxis when you might have walked. if possible, try to have a bag with wheels, rather than something on your shoulder, or keep your bag really really light.
2. your stomach is more delicate than normal - so even if you are an adventurous world traveller who has never gotten a stomach bug, you are more likely to get one now - so be extra careful about water (ice, etc...)
3. since you are at a stage where you have not told anyone yet... feel free to tell a 'white lie' - you are just getting over a flu, have an upset stomach or you are on antibiotics so you are a bit tired and cannot drink alcohol.
4. carry snacks on you at all times - just crackers, pretzels or whatever it is you like to snack on. you are only a few weeks now and might not have any need to snack yet, but in a couple of weeks you might need to snack every couple of hours - not a lot, just enough to settle your tummy. Same thing with water - be sure to drink a lot.
5. due to your hormones, you will also be going to the toilet way more than normal - so always note where they are when you are somewhere new, and always have your tissues with you. BTW, you go less in the 2nd trimester, it is just the 1st and 3rd that it is all the time (really, all the time!)
6. Medicine - there is very little you are allowed to take when you are pregnant - paracetamol (panadol) and CTM (an antihistamine) are two of them - speak with your doctor about what they say is safe, and carry these with you. My biggest mistake was not having anything handy, and not being able to find the 'right' medicine when I needed it. You will probably want tums, and maybe mints with you too.
7. DO, tell the airline when you check in... airlines have been very good to help with regards to seating and comfort and helping me put my briefcase in overhead locker. And go to the front of the queue without feeling guilty!
8. Scheduling - while before you might have flown to a morning meeting on a late night flight or an afternoon meeting on a morning flight - you might want to give yourself a break and fly in the afternoon, so you can rest in the evening before the busy day of meetings.
9. Also - just in case of emergencies, have your health insurance card with you and know where you might go if you need to (names of good hospitals near your hotel, etc...).
It might sound like a lot, but it is really just being aware that you are not the super-working-travelling-machine that you were just 2 months ago. So travel, go, have good meetings, a great time and just be aware that you might not be able to 'do it all' like you could before. And be more cautious (but not paranoid).
Good Luck!!

Thanks for that Cri. Very useful tips... do airlines really help even when you are not showing?
Simplythebest - yes will wait till the first trimester is done, and looking forward to talking more!

firsttimemom -> my experience with CX and Dragon Air has been very good, I tell them when I check in, and then the air hostess when I take my seat (they help me with my bag in the overhead locker, etc...)
In China, once you are showing, they will let you in the 'fast' visa counter that says 'diplomats and people who need assistance'.

LOL!
So I had the blood test today. My HCG level is 1277, which the doc says is very good for this stage (16 dpo). He still reckons I should take the utrogestan till the 7th week, because of my history, just to be safe. Will be going for the heartbeat at the 7th week... ooooo
Meanwhile, I am definitely feeling queasy, like I want to burp all the time, but woozy with it. Is this what its like?

everyone is different - but I think it is safe to say if you feel anything it is 'normal'. Just remember to drink lots of water and take your vitamins not matter how you feel...
good luck!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! That's great to hear, enjoy your 9 months of pregnancy.
firsttimemom, how long did you see your acu? she must be good, only a few sessions? thanks. Take care.

Thanks Crystal88! I'm not counting chickens, its early days, and I've been here before, but I feel comforted that I now have someone to hand hold a bit in the form of my TCM - who is helping the cause with accupuncture and advice.
I actually only saw her for this cycle, didnt want to attempt again and risk another miscarriage without some support. Her name is Yvonne and she's at the Vitality Centre. I had one accupuncture session on day 3 of my cycle (plus herbs), another just before I ovulated (different herbs), another 7 days later, and will be having one last one tomorrow. I stopped the herbs once the pregnancy was confirmed. Tomorrow she will reassess me for pulse etc etc...
Cheers

Congratulations and hope it all goes well for you! I'm in my 2WW now and am keeping my fingers crossed. Went through natural monitoring last month and got jabs like almost every other day so I hope it'll all pay off.

Yes, the days can be so long! its wait wait wait wait. Luckily I'm up to here at work and cannot think too much about it!
In my case its more about helping me keep the pregnancy, increasing my circulation to the womb, improving my digestive system and general chi etc etc. I think TCM is more about restoring balance than anything else - so the body is all working harmoniously and hormones are doing what they are supposed to do at the different times of the month.
Simplythebest, how are you feeling these days?
Good luck Narnia - I really truly hope you have great news soon! xxx

I'm travelling, and not in the nausea stage yet, thank god. My TCM doc says it kicks in about 6-8 weeks, and I'm still week 5. But I'm very very tired, dont have a huge appetite and my breasts are very sore - but they have been for a long while now.
While it would make me feel safer to feel nauseous, if I'm one of those that can get by without it so much the better!

Try Vitamin B complex for nausea, along with lots of ginger. There are loads of other lists of things to avoid and try in most books/websites. Some say avoid carbonated drinks too.
Nap/sleep whenever you can... don't fight the tiredness. I know work gets in the way and it is really hard... it is the worst part for me.
figleaves.com for maternity bras (not yet, but soon), in the meantime some no-underwire sports bras are helpful (even sleep in them if it helps).

Mummy, responding to your post now, thought I had done!!! The first time, when I told my mom, she said, are you sure, did you see the ultrasound etc etc. Perhaps I should've waited till I had!! Not risking that again!

The Vitality Centre is 35 Queens Road, Commercial House, 8th Floor. Phone 25371118. Cecilia The is the specialist. I think they are pretty good, spend a lot of time explaining things to you, and will make time for you when there is an urgency, and by the looks of it not as expensive as some others...

Hi firstimemom, how much is the charge at vitality centre? thanks.

Mummy! only 7 weeks to go wheeeee! I bet you cant wait! How sweet of your nan. Yeah, my mom is a knitting whiz too, so when she knows I'm betting I'll get mitts, booties, caps with squiggly things on it etc etc LOL!
I went on my business trip and returned without event. My heardbeat ultrasound is next wednesday - 5 days to go, and I refuse to think about it! Keeping myself busy at work and on the weekends. but ever so tired.
How are you sleeping now?
Please support our advertisers:
Crystal88, the first time it was 650 plus 90 for 9 days herbs. There after it was just over 500 per visit, plus a bit more for the herbs. The visiting costs include accupuncture.

Well, went in for a blood test and it was negative again, sigh... Back to the drawing board. Just ended the 2nd month of assisted fertility treatment, hope i don't have to go through too many months of this. Anyway, gotta keep the spirits high, although it's a bit hard when things aren't working out.
Great to read so many happy postings. Hope to add my share soon.

Oh Narnia, I am so very sorry to hear that. I dont know what else to say, but I'm glad you are keeping the spirits high. God bless and good luck for next time. xx

thanks for the price firsttimemom, almost the same as troy ($500 per acu visit) but his herbs cost more, around $200 for 5 days. Take care.

Thanks simplythebest. I'm not on clomid tho the doc said she might start it for me next cycle. I'm on metformin and towards mid cycle, i got 4 shots of gonalf. So the 'environment' seemed to be OK however... Anyway, the doc recommends IUI and/or clomid next cycle. BTW, why is IUI after clomid not right? And do mind telling me what assistance you got in your successful 3rd month? Thanks and its great to hear from someone who's been through it all and is successful.
Please support our advertisers:
Thanks for your advice and info, it's reassuring. I've been reading from these threads how acupuncture can help. Might give it a try. BTW, does $1500 for IUI sound right to you?

IUI is more like $10,000 - $15,000 per cycle!

Hi Lena, LOL, I know how it feels about the breasts hahahaha. Even now I wonder if they are sorer, less sore, etc etc. These pregnancy symptoms are precious :D. Good luck to you, I hope there's a positive at the end of it.
Narnia, talk to the Vitality Centre. They are great folks, very friendly and very reassuring. We got the heartbeat today, so I'm going in tomorrow for a complimentary pulse check, and if its kidney or spleen chi is not as strong as it might be, there'll be another accupuncture session...
Please support our advertisers:
I think you should call the centre and see what they say. They will check the spleen chi - which is for implantation.
Crikey. Pineapple and red curry? I think you should eat nutritious food - I didn't restrict myself to anything. However, I am avoiding hot spicy or oily stuff.
Please support our advertisers:
They check the pulse on the wrist, and there is one they can put the finger on that tells them about the kidney and spleen energy. Beats me how, but I did notice a difference in the strength of my pulse after.
I agree with you STB, they usually start treatment on day three of your cycle. But I called and had a general chat about what they do and what was the best time to come in etc, before I went in.
Please support our advertisers:
We got a HEARTBEAT!!!!! Wheeeee. It was so tiny and went open/close/open/close, thrilling. My bladder was so full on account of the doc telling me to drink some water, so he had to go off to the side to get a reasonable picture, but there it was. 0.98cm making it 6wks 6days almost to the day. The doc said continue taking the progesterone and come back at 9 weeks to check it again. If all is ok then its likely going to be ok... so another 2ww!
But nice to know that chance of miscarriage has dropped to about 1-2% from 20%!!
Thanks much for asking xxx

Mummy, Lena NL, thanks so much. Yes, trying not to worry is tough!
Today I managed the nausea quite well, had my smoothie, drank ginger and lemon tea through the day, took two oranges and one apple to work, had couscous salad with bell peppers, celery, tomato and tuna for lunch and had an apple at 5pm, dinner at 6:30. So I was not feeling that queasy. Even though I set out to quell the nausea, I felt nervous when I didnt feel it that much - arent we strange creatures!!! well, its come back now to some extent, just before bed!

I guess we have to actively post here, as there's a lot of good news lately.......baby dust to us ;-)

Yeah! I hope your hcg levels are rising nicely. Around the time of my period (actually the week before a some days after, I also had cramping - almost menstrual like. But it goes away. Now I dont feel anything except the occassional twinge.
Its so great to see so many of us in "positive mode" these days! Good luck to everyone trying!

I guess I'm lucky. My nausea is very mild and I'm controlling it with ginger and lemon tea, and eating something small but nutritious every couple of hours. But when I'm stressed it kicks in (like when I had the very small bleeding I was nauseaus the whole day from that moment). The nausea started about 2 weeks ago, but hasn't really gotten much worse. I make sure I don't eat fatty or fried foods and that I don't get hungry.
But I understand that some women have tried all of the above and still are as sick as anything, so I'm grateful I can still function quite well!
