I'm about to give birth and am confused about which umbilical bank in HK to go for. There seems to be three: 2 based in HK and one in the UK. They are all new, even the UK one. The longest running company is HK's cryoLIFE. They've been around since 1998.
Also, my doctor has told me that the travel to the UK storage facility is not good for the cord so its best to store it in HK for now.
What do you think? If any of you stored the cords, which company did you go for and how do you find them?
Thanks!
Emily

Is this a British thing? What is an umbilical bank?

In the early days we sent cord segments. Now we usually drain cord blood, before the placenta delivers, into a special pack and send that to the center. I said in another thread that it is best to store in your home country. EWho knows what laws will change, perhaps it well become illegal to export stem cells, who knows. I think you need to keep it close at hand.
The banks have told me that if they get the cells within 48hours then there is no problem, most courier companies can do this, Fed Ex and I think DHL have special containers for this.
No stinker belle this is a worldwide service.
