Any recos for IVF Drs with success?

Thanks to everyone for your encouraging stories and experiences. I think this is a great forum for discussions and support.

My husband and I have just finished our 3rd unsuccessful IUI cycle and are thinking of trying IVF next. We will also be changing doctors as the previous one did not manage my drug dosages to satisfaction. Can anyone recommend a good IVF Dr? Any successes that you know of?

My GP recommends either Dr. Chris Haines or Dr. Robert Stevenson. There seems to be conflicting stories about Dr. Philip Ho. Any comments?

Thanks and looking forward to reading your responses,

mleaf

my husband and i have only good things to say about dr ho. yes, a large part of that is because our first ivf cycle with him was a success, (after three failures), but here are some other reasons:

-he is honest

-he explains why you are going on certain drugs, or why he wants certain tests

-he is affiliated with the hk sanitorium, which has an excellent reproductive science lab. their embryologist is excellent

- if you need to make an extra or emergency appointment, he will make the time for you

- he is careful with lab results and keeping you up to date on what the levels mean in regards to your cycle

chris haines at prince of wales i only know through an iui....he is a very professional, very good doctor, and gets very good results. i have heard the waiting lists are quite long, but if you were seeing him as a private patient, the scenario might be different.

i have heard very conflicting stories regarding dr stevenson. COPING might be a place to find more opinions, i suggest you contact them.

good luck.

Hi cdbdc,

That's great, congrats. Do you have Dr. Ho's office number and address?

If you don't mind me asking:

Any reason why you didn't do IVF with Dr. Haines? Where did you have your unsuccessful IVF cycles done?

Thanks.

you can reach Dr Ho at 2899 2293. kelly is the name of his assistant, she is really knowledgeable and kind. he is located in the building next to The Body Shop on Queens Rd central.

although dr haines has an excellent reputation, we went with dr ho for the simple issue of TIME. dr ho could fit us in right away, and dr haines had a longer waiting list. as well, his offices are in sha tin, and dr ho's central offices were more convenient for our location.

our unsuccessful attempts were in canada.

hope this helps.

Thanks, cbdc. Your info helps alot. I have tried twice now to get an appt with Dr. Haines, waiting for the receptionist to call me back and she hasn't. He seems quite busy which could be good or bad. Perhaps I will try Dr. Ho.

We're from Toronto, Canada and had a trying time with our attempts there as well.

Thanks, again. Good luck with "little cbdc".

mleaf, It is such a sad and frustrating time going thru all this infertility and i feel for you but pleae keep in mind that the Dr plays an important but small roll in IVF. Yes it's his job to get the eggs just right the quality has to be there but the IVF clinic has a major roll in our fertility. They are the ones growing and nurturing the embryos so if your looking into success rates the IVF clinic should be considered also. I had a friend who did IVF in HK with another Dr and she got pregnant on the second try. I wish you all the best theres so much more involved in IVF than IUI so Good luck to you and your partner.

wanted to add that i completely agree with lena and perthites comments that the clinic is very important. as i noted in my first post, dr ho is also with the hk sanitorium. janet was excellent about keeping us informed and the embryologist was excellent - answering our questions about freezing methods, grading practises and icsi. the clinic is a huge part of the success, as is the embryologist.

Thanks Perthites, Lena, and cbdc. It's so good to hear successful stories. I also agree that the facilities and embryologists play key roles in the success. I will definitely consider the HK Sanatorium. Not fond of the higher prices but it's worth it.

Best wishes to you and your babies. Happy pregnancy!

I went to Dr. Doo for a failed IVF and a cancelled FET. It is only my opinion that he wasn't completely on the ball, BUT he has a great bedside manner. Really reassuring and a nice guy. I also have a more complicated infertilty issue.

I switched over to Dr. Stevenson for another go at FET, but it was also cancelled. I've only been with Dr. S for one cycle, but I found that I had to call him to follow-up. I hate that. I'm waiting around for the lab results, getting stressed, waiting for them to call me and finally I have to call them. I'm on drugs and from personal experience I think I've been on them long enough and I have to call to ask when I'm supposed to discontinue them (turns out I could have stopped a day earlier). I'm giving him another chance, after which I'll move onto Dr. Ho. If I don't like him either, I'm going back to the US or Singapore.

Can definitely recommend Dr. Philip Ho. I had several miscarriages, none of the doctors you mentioned were able to help, also went to Arabinda Ghosh and Milton Leong - but was told that my case was "unique!". Philip Ho was the only one who agreed to take me on as a case. He has one of the better bedside manners, and his assistants at the clinic are brilliant, very sweet. He doesn't promise anything that he can't deliver, and is upfront with what he is able to do. He has one of the highest success rates with IVF and unexplained fertility or recurrent miscarriages. Would encourage you to choose the correct doctor for your particular problem - some fertility specialists are not generalists in the world of fertility, as I found out to my cost. A lot of very good (and very expensive) doctors wasted my time in HK. I also tried Singapore and USA. Good luck.

Thanks for the reco, Jayne. Have you had any success yet? If so, what eventually worked for you?

For now, I will continue to see Dr. Haines as we have already consulted with him. Depending on how things go, my next step will be to see Dr. P. Ho.

Thanks again and Happy New Year!!!
