Elective C-Section at QME?

Hi! I am thinking about going private for my prenatal checkups, then register at Tran Yuk later and deliver at Queen Mary hospital.

But will I be able to choose my delivery method? I'd like to have C-section instead of VD. Is it a choice thing when going the public route?

When (how late) should I register at Tran Yuk if I choose this route (private then public)?

Thanks for your advice!!

Hi Sunny,

I do the same thing. I booked myself in Tsan Yuk Hospital. And I am seeing Dr. Cora Ngai (my obstetritian) regularly. You can give a call to Tsan Yuk Hospital (25892100). They usually do the booking on Wednesday or Saturaday. I think you can book yoursself at any gestation. Initialy I plan to delivery in public hospital. My husband and I now decided to deliver in Adventist Hospital. Dr. Ngai is very caring and I really what her to be there at delivery. Besides, I can choose the mode of delivery. But I have not make up my mind yet.

Good luck.

Thanks for your reply Ednabell. Does this mean you cannot choose C-section delivery if you want to unless your doctor at Tsan Yuk thinks you should?

Whoops, just realised I mis-typed and wrote QME. I meant QMH - Queen Mary Hospital.

The attending doctor in Tsan Yuk Hospital told me that I cannot choose CS by myself. I will have it if there is 'obstetric indication'. Dr Ngai asked me not to think about it now (cause I am only 23 weeks pregnant). Mind you, all the deliveries are done in QMH.

Thanks Ednabell. If that's the case, I will have to deliver at private hospital as I really want C-section. My husband's preference also, haha. Btw, how much does Dr. Ngai charge for pre-natal checkups? And how often do you see her? Is she based in Central? Do you know her charges on C-section delivery? Does she charge according to room type you choose at the hospital. Thanks a lot!!

Hi Sunny,

Dr. Ngai's clinic is in Central. It costs about $600-900 per visit depending on the need for scan. In fact, she also did the amniocentesis for me. Her machine is superb. I can see my son's fingers, face, heart.... We like her because she is very caring. There is no hurry in each visit. The charge of delivery ranges from $20000 to $40000. I will probably deliver in Adventist Hospital (stardard room). Her charges will be around $20000-$25000.
